The Story of “Hell Mode”
The series follows Kenichi Yamada, a hardcore gamer who finds himself disheartened by the closure of his favorite online game. Seeking a truly challenging experience, he stumbles upon an untitled game promising “incomparable challenge with unprecedented potential.” Without hesitation, he selects the “Hell Mode” difficulty. This choice leads to his reincarnation in another world as a serf named Allen, where he must navigate a brutal reality defined by the same “Hell Mode” difficulty. As Allen, he embarks on a journey to uncover the secrets of his mysterious Summoner class and rise to the top of his new, unforgiving world without the aid of typical game guides or online forums.
The original light novel series by Hamuo began serialization online in November 2019 on Shōsetsuka ni Narō and is published in print by Earth Star Entertainment. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Enji Tetta, has also been serialized since October 2020. J-Novel Club and Yen Press publish the light novels and manga in English.
