The highly anticipated new anime adaptation of Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube officially premiered on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, with a special one-hour broadcast of its first two episodes. The series, based on the popular manga by Shō Makura and Takeshi Okano, aired on TV Asahi’s new “IMAnimation W” programming block in Japan at 11:15 p.m. JST.
New Adaptation Returns Beloved Occult Action
This new anime series marks a fresh take on the classic Jigoku Sensei Nube manga, which originally ran from 1993 to 1999 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The story follows Meisuke Nueno, affectionately known as “Nube,” a seemingly ordinary homeroom teacher for Class 5-3 at Dōmori Elementary. However, Nube harbors a profound secret: he is Japan’s only psychic teacher and a skilled exorcist, using a powerful demon sealed in his left hand—dubbed the “Demon’s Hand”—to protect his students and the town from supernatural threats. The series blends occult action with elements of comedy horror and dark fantasy as Nube tackles school mysteries, ghosts, and evil spirits.

Legacy of Jigoku Sensei Nube
The original Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube manga, serialized from 1993 to 1999, has sold over 29 million copies, becoming a beloved occult comic in Japan. Its enduring popularity stems from its unique blend of classic ghost stories, urban legends, and the heartwarming dedication of Nube to protect his students. The franchise has seen various adaptations over the years, including a 49-episode anime television series by Toei Animation (1996-1997), three movies, three original video animation (OVA) episodes, and a live-action series in 2014.
