HOUSTON, TX – HIDIVE, AMC Networks’ rapidly expanding anime streaming service, has officially announced its role as a co-producer for the upcoming anime adaptation of Mikihisa Konishi’s popular manga series, Petals of Reincarnation (Rīnkānēshon no Kaben). The highly anticipated supernatural action series, first revealed in Japan on August 1, 2024, as part of the manga’s 10th anniversary celebration, is currently in production for a future release.
The news positions HIDIVE, a subsidiary of Sentai Filmworks, as a key player in bringing this long-beloved manga to animated life, reinforcing its commitment to acquiring and supporting new anime content.
A Decade of Manga Success Leads to Anime Adaptation
Petals of Reincarnation, penned and illustrated by Mikihisa Konishi, first began its serialization in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade magazine in May 2014. Despite the magazine ceasing publication shortly after, the series successfully transitioned to the Comic Blade website in September of the same year, where it has continued to thrive. With 21 collected volumes to date and over 3 million copies in circulation by August 2024, the manga has garnered a dedicated fanbase over its decade-long run. Mangamo currently licenses the manga digitally in English.
The Intriguing Premise of Petals of Reincarnation
The series introduces readers to Toya Senji, a high school student who perceives himself as talentless despite his efforts. His life takes a dramatic turn upon encountering Haito, a Kendo champion and a “Returner” – an individual capable of drawing on the abilities of their past lives through a supernatural aid known as the “Stem of Reincarnation,” which surprisingly requires self-inflicted death to activate. Haito urges Toya to join her, leading him on a journey to uncover his own potential and the broader implications of these reincarnated talents, which can stem from historical figures as well as criminals. The narrative explores the ongoing battles of these “Reincarnators” who possess extraordinary abilities from their former lives.
HIDIVE’s Growing Co-Production Portfolio
This co-production marks another strategic move for HIDIVE, which has been actively expanding its content library since its acquisition by AMC Networks in January 2022.
