World Premiere at Anime NYC 2025
Before its official streaming debut in October 2025, HIDIVE will host the world premiere of the first episode of Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?! at Anime NYC 2025. This exclusive screening event is scheduled to take place from August 21–24 in New York City, providing attendees with an early look at the series. What is a Simulcast?
For anime enthusiasts, “simulcast” refers to the practice of streaming new episodes of an anime series online almost simultaneously with their initial broadcast on Japanese television. This allows international viewers to watch the latest installments with English subtitles, often within hours of the Japanese premiere, eliminating the long waits traditionally associated with anime releases outside of Japan. Simulcasting has become a cornerstone of modern anime distribution, fostering a global community of fans who can discuss and engage with new episodes in real-time while also helping to combat piracy and support the creators directly.
The Story of a Hero Without a Class
The anime is based on the popular light novel series penned by Shichio Kuzu and illustrated by Yumehito Ueda, originally serialized on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website from November 2017 to May 2020. Earth Star Entertainment later published the series as light novels, with four volumes released between July 2018 and June 2019. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Akio Nanae, began serialization in Comic Earth Star in November 2018, with its ninth compiled volume shipping in March 2025. One Peace Books is releasing the manga in English.
The narrative of Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?! introduces a world where a benevolent goddess bestows each individual with a “class” and “skills” at the age of ten, dictating their life’s path. The protagonist, Arel, is born to remarkable parents—a Sword Princess and an Archmage. However, in a surprising turn of events, Arel receives neither a class nor any skills during his blessing ceremony, leaving him seemingly disadvantaged in a world where such endowments are crucial.
Despite this inherent lack of magical or innate abilities, Arel refuses to be defined by his circumstances. Instead, he relies on sheer determination, rigorous training, and his natural talents to forge his own path towards greatness. His journey aims to establish him as a new kind of hero—one who achieves success through grit and hard work, rather than inherited power or divine blessings.
