AMC Networks’ HIDIVE streaming service has announced it will exclusively stream the upcoming original TV anime series Dusk Beyond the End of the World (Japanese title: Towa no Yugure) as part of its Fall 2025 simulcast season, beginning in October 2025. Fans will also get an early look at the series, with the world premiere of its first two episodes scheduled for August 24, 2025, at Anime NYC.
A Glimpse into a Post-Apocalyptic Future
The anime, produced by P.A. Works to commemorate its 25th anniversary, delves into a science fiction narrative set 200 years in the future. The story centers on Akira, a male high school student who awakens from cold sleep to a world ravaged by war. This new society is governed by a unified organization called OWEL, and a new system known as “Elsie” (or “LC”) has replaced traditional marriage.
Upon waking, Akira encounters an android named Yugure, who bears a striking resemblance to his past girlfriend, Towasa. Yugure immediately proposes marriage to a bewildered Akira, prompting him to embark on a journey with the android, believing that Towasa must still be alive in this changed world.
Exploring Love in a Transforming Society
HIDIVE describes the synopsis of Dusk Beyond the End of the World as an exploration of love in its myriad forms within a world grappling with significant societal shifts. The narrative examines how “love” endures amidst evolving issues such as gender, race, and compliance, alongside rapid technological innovations like advanced AI. The series intends to portray the beauty of these emotions—including love between humans and robots—sometimes beautifully, sometimes brutally, and sometimes comically. A central question posed is how long love can last, particularly when a robot outlives its human partner.
Key Creative Team and Voice Cast
The anime is directed and has its screenplay written by Naokatsu Tsuda, known for his work on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable. Midori Tayama, the mangaka behind Girl Crush, is credited with the original character designs, while Yoshiko Saito (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation co-character designer) is adapting these designs for animation. Masahiro Tokuda (Ishura, Platinum End) is composing the music for the series.
The main voice cast includes Shuichiro Umeda as Akira, Yui Ishikawa as Yugure, and Ai Kayano as Towasa. “Project FT” is credited for the original work.
World Premiere at Anime NYC
The global debut of the first two episodes will take place at Anime NYC on August 24, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM EST in Room 1A12 at the Javits Center. This exclusive preview offers anime enthusiasts a chance to experience the new series ahead of its official broadcast.
