Hanamaru Kira’s romantic comedy manga, “Hitting Rewind with You” (Okuremashite Seishun), is set to conclude its serialization in the October issue of Kodansha’s Dessert magazine, which will be released on September 24. The announcement was made in the magazine’s October issue on Friday.
The series, which launched in October 2023, will end with its 20th chapter. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga for English publication and plans to release the first volume in spring 2026.
The Story of “Hitting Rewind with You”
“Hitting Rewind with You” centers on Wakaba Kayano, a 20-year-old college student who, due to her dedication to studying in high school, missed out on typical teenage milestones like after-school dates. In an attempt to reclaim these “heart-fluttering experiences,” she dons her old high school uniform on Halloween. This leads to an encounter with Fumito, a boy dressed in a quintessential high school boy uniform.
What begins as a dream-like date takes a humorous turn when Wakaba panics about revealing her true age, only to discover that Fumito is also a college student. The manga explores their sweet and at times silly romance, filled with youthful nostalgia, as they navigate their relationship and the experiences they both initially missed.
Publication History and Reception
Hanamaru Kira launched “Hitting Rewind with You” in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine in October 2023. The series quickly garnered attention for its charming premise and relatable characters. Kodansha shipped the fourth compiled book volume of the manga on July 11, with the English release of the first volume anticipated in spring 2026. Fans have noted the “nice progression of their relationship” in the initial volumes, though some felt the story became “quite repetitive” in later stages.
Despite its relatively short run of approximately two years, ending with five compiled volumes, the series has been a notable debut for author Hanamaru Kira, who is described as a new manga artist. Its conclusion in September marks the end of this romantic comedy journey for its dedicated readership.
