The Epic Tale of Luck’s Ten-Year Ordeal
The series, penned by Ezogingitune and illustrated by DeeCHA, centers on a powerful mage named Luck. In a desperate act of self-sacrifice, Luck chooses to stay behind and hold off an overwhelming demonic horde, ensuring his comrades’ escape. However, what was intended as a final stand turns into a decade-long battle where Luck, against all odds, emerges victorious and unbelievably powerful.
Upon his return to the world he left behind, Luck discovers that ten years have passed. His friends, believing him dead, had enshrined his actions in history, making him a revered legend. The narrative then explores Luck’s struggle to adjust to a world that has moved on, his vastly altered power, and the new roles he inadvertently assumes—those of a legend, a veteran, and a new face. The story blends high fantasy with elements of adventure, action, and the protagonist’s journey of rediscovery.
From Web Novel to Popular Light Novel and Manga
I Became a Legend After My 10 Year-Long Last Stand originally began its journey as a web novel, serialized on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō from June 2018 to January 2021. Its popularity led to its acquisition by SB Creative, which began publishing it as a light novel under their GA Novel imprint in February 2019, featuring illustrations by DeeCHA. As of July 2022, seven volumes of the light novel have been released.
A manga adaptation, illustrated by Chako Abeno with composition by Kitsune Tennōji, further expanded the series’ reach. This adaptation began serialization on Square Enix’s Manga Up! website and app in August 2019. The manga has been compiled into seventeen tankōbon volumes as of May 2025. The series has garnered a significant following, boasting over 4 million copies in circulation by May 2025 across its various formats.
