Aniplex officially unveiled its new original television anime project, “Inherit the Winds” (Kaze wo Tsugumono), during the Aniplex Online Fest 2025, which took place on Saturday, September 13, 2025. While a teaser visual, trailer, and key staff members were revealed, information regarding the main voice cast is yet to be announced.

The announcement at Aniplex Online Fest 2025 introduced “Inherit the Winds” as a historical drama set in Japan’s turbulent Bakumatsu era. The series is being produced by Aniplex, with animation handled by Live2D Creative Studio and Drive.
Unveiled Staff and Creative Team
Several key creative staff members have been confirmed for the “Inherit the Winds” project. Tomohiro Kawamura is set to direct the anime. Yutaka Narui, known for his work with the theater troupe Caramel Box, is credited as the original creator and is also penning the script. Fumi Ebina is designing the characters, and Shigeru Kishida is composing the music for the series. Yutaka Narui and Aniplex are in charge of the original story with cooperation from Azuki Mashiba.
Premise of “Inherit the Winds”
The anime’s narrative unfolds in Kyoto during June 1863. It centers on Jinsuke Tachikawa, a young man who awakens with no recollection of his past. He finds himself at the Mibu Roshigumi headquarters, where he is welcomed by assistant captain Sōji Okita and given his new name. Jinsuke subsequently begins his life as a member of the corps, immersing himself in the world of the Shinsengumi amidst the political upheaval of the late Edo period.
