The “Isekai Ryūji: Shikō to Kyomu no Buzz Recipe Tabi” manga, which centers on a popular Japanese chef and YouTuber, has published its final chapter for advance reading on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE service on Sunday, with the full release scheduled for August 17.
The End of a Culinary Isekai Journey
The manga, which debuted on the Manga ONE service in August 2024, is based on the real-life persona of chef and YouTuber Ryūji. It features a unique premise, combining the popular “isekai” (other world) genre with a focus on gourmet cooking. The narrative follows Ryūji, a modern cooking researcher with a significant online following, who finds himself transported to a fantasy world.
A Chef’s Unconventional Path in Another World
In this new world, essential seasonings like salt and sugar are tightly controlled by nobles, making fine cuisine a luxury. After being transported while drunk and asleep, Ryūji’s outspoken nature immediately lands him in prison. However, he leverages his “buzz recipes”—modern, efficient cooking techniques—to create “best” meals in the “shortest time,” beginning his ascent in this unfamiliar realm.
The story for “Isekai Ryūji: Shikō to Kyomu no Buzz Recipe Tabi” was written by Rintarō Hamaguchi, with direct supervision from Ryūji himself, while Hishiwo Miyazawa handled the artwork. Shogakukan released the manga’s first compiled book volume on February 12.
