“Akage Elf no Ozōsaiya-san” follows another recent work by Itokatsu, “Otonari Little Witch” (The Little Witch By My Side), which began its serialization in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine on May 25, 2023. This manga focuses on the intriguing cohabitation of Sakura, a serious college student, and Penelope, a British girl who mysteriously appears in her life. The premise of “Otonari Little Witch” showcases Itokatsu’s recurring interest in character-driven narratives and unique interpersonal dynamics, often blending everyday life with a touch of the extraordinary.
The Legacy of “Silver Nina”
Itokatsu gained significant recognition for “Silver Nina” (Shirogane no Nina), a slice-of-life drama that resonated with many readers. The series was serialized in Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine from April 2012 to August 2019, concluding with an epilogue in September 2019. “Silver Nina” followed the story of Nina Shimazaki, a young girl from Finland who moves to Japan with the ambition of becoming an Akiba Idol, and her uncle Shuutarou, who returns to his hometown after losing his job in Tokyo. The manga comprised 15 compiled volumes and was digitally released in English by Crunchyroll Manga as it serialized in Japan.
