“It’s Not Me in Flames” Novel Gets Manga Adaptation

Akinari Asakura’s mystery novel, Ore de wa Nai Enjō (It’s Not Me in Flames), is set to receive a manga adaptation starting July 15 in the 15th issue of Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine. The manga will be illustrated by Ōtori556, also known as Kokoro. This news arrives alongside the announcement of a live-action film adaptation of the novel, scheduled to premiere in Japan on September 26.

A Gripping Story of Accusation and Survival

Ore de wa Nai Enjō tells the story of Taisuke Yamagata, a sales manager who finds his life turned upside down when he is falsely accused of murdering a female college student. As his identity is exposed online, Taisuke becomes a public enemy, with the entire nation seemingly against him. Determined to prove his innocence, he goes on the run, uncovering shocking truths along the way.

Manga Adaptation Details

The manga adaptation by Ōtori556 promises to bring a visual dimension to Asakura’s thrilling narrative. Ōtori556 (Kokoro) is a manga artist that will adapt the original novel.

Live-Action Film Adaptation

In addition to the manga, Ore de wa Nai Enjō is also being adapted into a live-action film, set to premiere in Japan on September 26. This simultaneous adaptation across different media highlights the story’s broad appeal and potential for reaching a wide audience.

Akinari Asakura: Author Background

Akinari Asakura is a novelist known for his mystery works. Besides Ore de wa Nai Enjō, his notable works include Kyoushitsu ga, Hitori ni naru made (Until I’m Alone in the Classroom), Noir Revenant, and the critically acclaimed Rokunin no Usotsuki na Daigakusei (Six Lying College Students).

Asakura has also ventured into manga writing, most notably as the writer for Show-ha Shoten!, with illustrations by Takeshi Obata, the artist behind Death Note and Platinum End. Show-ha Shoten!, which launched in Shueisha’s Jump SQ. magazine in October 2021, is set to conclude with its 11th compiled book volume on September 4. This manga is available in English through Viz Media and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service.

Show-ha Shoten! Synopsis

Show-ha Shoten! follows the journey of Azemichi Shijima, a shy student who secretly studies comedy, and Taiyo Higashikata, an outgoing classmate with dreams of becoming a comedian. Together, they form a comedy duo and aim to conquer Japan’s comedy scene. The series explores their challenges and triumphs as they compete in various comedy events.

  • Rokunin no Usotsuki na Daigakusei (Six Lying College Students): This novel also received a manga adaptation, Rokunin no Usotsuki no Daigakusei: Plus One, illustrated by Keiga Ōsawa, which ran from June 2022 to November 1 in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine.
