Sazae-san Leads Week’s Viewership

For the week of June 16-22, 2025, the enduring classic Sazae-san once again claimed the top spot in Japanese television animation rankings, securing a 6.4% average household rating. The long-running family anime, broadcast on Fuji TV, continues to demonstrate its consistent popularity among viewers in the Kanto region.

Top Performers and Noteworthy Entries

Following Sazae-san, Detective Conan on NTV garnered a 4.8% rating, solidifying its position as a strong contender in the weekly viewership. Chibi Maruko-chan, another beloved Fuji TV staple, secured a 4.4% rating.

The rankings, based on data from Video Research in the Kanto region, also saw a unique entry with Ueda to Onna ga DEEP ni Hoeru Yoru, a variety show, and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX listed together, achieving a combined 3.2% rating on NTV. Yaiba: Samurai Legend from NTV registered a 2.9% rating.

Other notable anime in the top rankings included You and Idol Precure♪ (TV Asahi) and the finale of The Dinner Table Detective (Fuji TV), both at 2.7%. Doraemon (TV Asahi) and Crayon Shin-chan (TV Asahi) each held a 2.5% rating, while Your Forma (TV Asahi) and One Piece (Fuji TV) both recorded 2.4%. Oshiri Tantei (NHK-E) rounded out the listed rankings with 1.5%.

Context of Japanese TV Ratings

It is important to note that these television ratings are an estimation of the percentage of the population watching a given program, derived from survey data of households in Japan’s Kanto region. These figures do not account for recordings that viewers may watch at a later time. The landscape of anime viewership in Japan has also evolved with the increasing popularity of internet streaming, leading to a shift where ratings in the 2% range are now considered indicative of high viewership for late-night anime.
