Context of Japanese TV Ratings
It is important to note that these television ratings are an estimation of the percentage of the population watching a given program, derived from survey data of households in Japan’s Kanto region. These figures do not account for recordings that viewers may watch at a later time. The landscape of anime viewership in Japan has also evolved with the increasing popularity of internet streaming, leading to a shift where ratings in the 2% range are now considered indicative of high viewership for late-night anime.
