Tokyo, Japan – The popular manga series Kagurabachi will be taking a one-week break from its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The hiatus is attributed to “production circumstances,” as announced by the manga’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The series will not appear in the magazine’s 48th issue, scheduled for October 27, but is expected to return in the 49th issue, set to ship on November 4 in Japan.
This brief pause comes as Kagurabachi, created by Takeru Hokazono, continues to gain significant traction among manga enthusiasts worldwide.
Details of the Kagurabachi Hiatus
The announcement, made on October 22, 2025, confirmed that the chapter intended for Weekly Shonen Jump issue #48 will be postponed. While “production circumstances” is the stated reason, such breaks in the demanding weekly manga schedule are not uncommon and can often be related to the creator’s health or the need to maintain quality. Fans have previously expressed concerns about the intensity of Hokazono’s schedule, especially after some chapters, like chapter 95, reportedly featured unfinished pages.
The manga’s return in issue #49 on November 4, 2025, means readers will only have a short wait before continuing with the story. New chapters are typically released on Sundays.
Previous Breaks and Creator Well-being
This is not the first time Kagurabachi has taken a break. In June 2025, the manga took an unplanned one-week hiatus due to Hokazono’s “sudden illness.” At that time, the creator apologized for worrying fans and affirmed that they were “currently writing energetically.” Such instances highlight the intense pressure faced by mangaka to consistently deliver weekly content. Fans often vocalize their hopes for creators like Hokazono to prioritize their health.
The Rise of Kagurabachi
Since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023, Kagurabachi has rapidly ascended in popularity. The series, which follows Chihiro Rokuhira on a quest for revenge after his swordsmith father’s murder, has been praised for its compelling action and evolving narrative depth. It quickly garnered international attention, with its first English chapter topping global views on MANGA Plus by Shueisha.
The manga’s success was further cemented by winning the print category in the Next Manga Awards 2024 and receiving a nomination for this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. As of May 2025, the series had topped 2.2 million copies in circulation, with the ninth compiled book volume published in October. There have also been reports from Toyo Keizai Online, a finance magazine website, suggesting an anime adaptation by Cygames Pictures is in the works, though official confirmation remains pending.
Fans can continue to read Kagurabachi digitally in English via Viz Media’s Shonen Jump and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platforms. The latest three chapters are freely available on the MANGA Plus website, with all chapters accessible through the app.
