Homura Kawamoto, the creative mind behind the popular manga series Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, has launched a brand-new manga. Known for his thrilling narratives and complex characters, Kawamoto’s latest venture promises to bring a fresh twist to the manga scene.
A Brawling Middle-Aged Man? Plot Details
The new manga, titled Kenka Oji-san – Namo Naki Chūnen, Tsuyo Sugiru. (roughly translated as “The Nameless Brawling Middle-Aged Man is Too Strong”), debuted on Kakao Japan’s Piccoma service on Sunday. The story appears to center around an unexpectedly powerful, brawling middle-aged man.
Homura Kawamoto: A Master of Manga
Homura Kawamoto is a prolific Japanese manga artist and writer. He began his career posting manga anonymously online before launching Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler in 2014, which became a major hit.
Kakegurui‘s Success
Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, serialized in Gangan Joker, follows the high-stakes gambling culture within Hyakkaou Private Academy, where students’ social status is determined by their gambling prowess. The series has sold over five million copies and has been adapted into a successful anime television series, live-action dramas, and movies.

Besides Kakegurui, Kawamoto has been involved in numerous other projects, including:
- Kakegurui Twin: A spin-off of Kakegurui.
- High Card: An original series where Kawamoto is in charge of the creation and development. He also worked on the original comic High Card – ♢ 9 No Mercy, which is serialized in Manga UP!.
- Build Divide: Kawamoto served as a co-creator for this anime series.

Bōryoku Banzai: Another Upcoming Manga
Kawamoto is also set to launch another new manga with artist Nadainishi titled Bōryoku Banzai (Hooray for Violence) in Weekly Young Magazine on March 3. This series is a serialization of their one-shot manga “Koroshi to Uso no Marriage” (Marriage of Murder and Lies). The story is teased as focusing on the “extremely violent legend of the most anti-social heroine in history”.
A Previous Cancellation: Cheat Slayer
In 2021, Kawamoto launched an isekai manga called Isekai Tenseisha Goroshi -Cheat Slayer- (translated as Killing the People Reincarnated into the Other World -Cheat Slayer-). However, the series was canceled after only one chapter due to similarities to existing isekai titles. The editors felt the characters intentionally denigrated particular works, potentially causing copyright issues or confusion.
