Story So Far: A Culinary Journey in the Spirit World
The original Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- anime, which first premiered in April 2018, introduced viewers to Aoi Tsubaki, a college student with the unique ability to see spirits, known as ayakashi. After her grandfather’s passing, Aoi finds herself whisked away to the Hidden Realm by an ogre-god, the proprietor of the Tenjin-ya inn. To repay her grandfather’s substantial debt, the ogre-god demands her hand in marriage. However, Aoi defiantly refuses the proposal and instead vows to pay off the debt by working as a cook at the Tenjin-ya, using her exceptional culinary skills to win over the diverse ayakashi residents and guests.
The series is based on the popular light novel series by Midori Yūma and illustrated by Laruha, which has also inspired multiple manga adaptations. The upcoming second season is expected to continue Aoi’s journey as she navigates the complexities of the spirit world, deepens her bonds with its inhabitants, and further hones her cooking talents.
