The iconic Kochikame franchise is set to receive a brand-new anime project and a new video game, announced at the Jump Festa ’26 event on Saturday. These highly anticipated projects commemorate the manga’s upcoming 50th anniversary, promising fresh content for both long-time fans and new audiences.
New “Shin Kochikame” Anime Project Announced
Osamu Akimoto’s beloved Kochikame manga will return with a new anime project titled Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo, or simply “New Kochikame.” Studio Gallop, which previously animated the original television series, is once again handling the animation production, marking the first full-scale new Kochikame anime production in ten years since 2016.
This new anime is part of the celebrations for the manga’s 50th anniversary, which will officially occur in 2026. A dedicated 50th-anniversary website is scheduled to open in spring 2026, with details regarding the anime’s refreshed cast to be revealed in September 2026.
“Kochikame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat” Game Revealed
In addition to the anime, a new pixel art simulation game, Kochikame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat, has been announced by Shueisha Games and Kairosoft. The game, officially titled Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo: Ryo-san no Shotengai Monogatari, tasks players with joining Officer Ryo-san to revitalize a struggling shopping district and build a billion-yen fortune.
Described as a “get-rich-quick shopping district simulation,” the game will feature Kairosoft’s distinctive management gameplay, combined with the humor characteristic of Kochikame. Players can expect to build and manage profitable facilities, raise funds through various means like gambling and part-time jobs, and encounter over 200 original characters from the series. Classic episodes and storylines will also be integrated through mini-games and story events.
The game is slated for a wide release across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, Android, and PC via Steam. The Steam version will support English, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese text, though a specific release date has yet to be confirmed.

The series has inspired numerous adaptations over its long history, including a long-running television anime series that debuted in 1996 and ran for over 300 episodes until 2004, as well as anime films, specials, live-action films, a live-action series, and stage plays. Recently, REMOW announced plans to release all 373 episodes of the original television anime with English subtitles in the U.S. and Canada on the It’s Anime YouTube channel, making the series accessible to a broader international audience.
