Kotoyama, the acclaimed creator of the Call of the Night (Yofukashi no Uta) manga, has launched a new short series for the franchise titled Yofukashi no Uta -Rakuen-hen-, translated as Call of the Night -Paradise Arc-. The new series began serialization in the 31st issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on July 2, 2025.

Continuation of the Nocturnal Tale

The launch of Call of the Night -Paradise Arc- marks the first new manga content for the series since its conclusion in January 2024. The original Call of the Night manga ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from August 2019 to January 2024, concluding with 20 compiled book volumes released by March 2024. Viz Media has licensed the original manga for English release in North America.

The new short series is described as a “short-term, standalone story” and a “sequel series,” indicating it will offer a fresh narrative within the established Call of the Night universe. The original manga followed the insomniac Ko Yamori, who, in his search for a different life, ventures out at night and encounters Nazuna Nanakusa, a vampire. His desire to become a vampire leads him into the nocturnal world and its unique inhabitants.

Anime Adaptation and Future Prospects

The Call of the Night manga also received an anime adaptation, with its first season premiering in July 2022. A second season of the anime is set to premiere on July 4, 2025. HIDIVE streamed the first season with English subtitles and later debuted an English dub. The anime series has garnered significant attention, with the manga itself having over 5.3 million copies in circulation, including digital editions, and winning the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2023.

Fans are eagerly anticipating how Call of the Night -Paradise Arc- will expand upon the world and characters of the popular series, offering new insights and adventures in the nocturnal realm.
