Manga artist Kouji Seo has announced that his romantic comedy series, The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses (Megami no Café Terrace), will continue with an irregular serialization, despite concluding its regular run in November 2025. The surprise announcement came via Seo’s X/Twitter account on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, confirming that fans can anticipate more stories from Cafe Familia in the future.
The End of Regular Serialization and a New Beginning
The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses officially concluded its regular serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine on November 5, 2025, after a successful four-year run that began in February 2021. The final chapter, number 217, included comments from the anime’s voice actors, marking what many believed to be the definitive end of the series. The 22nd and final collected volume is set to ship on January 16, 2026.
However, Seo quickly dispelled any notions of a complete farewell to Hayato Kasukabe and the five goddesses. His announcement of irregular serialization indicates a desire to revisit the beloved characters and their seaside cafe adventures intermittently. This news comes just as Seo is preparing to launch a brand new manga series, Ano Shima no Umine-sō (Umine Boarding House on That Island), a romantic comedy set on a remote island, in Weekly Shōnen Magazine‘s January 14, 2026, issue.
A Brief History of The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses
Kouji Seo’s The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses centers on Hayato Kasukabe, a diligent student who, after the death of his grandmother, returns to his hometown with plans to sell her struggling café, Cafe Terrace Familia. To his surprise, he discovers five young women living and working there, all of whom consider themselves his grandmother’s family. Moved by their predicament and his own rekindled feelings for his grandmother’s legacy, Hayato decides to reopen the café.
The manga quickly gained a dedicated following for its blend of romantic comedy, harem elements, and slice-of-life drama. It often features Seo’s characteristic mix of heartfelt moments, humor, and unexpected plot twists.
Anime Adaptations and Growing Popularity
The series further cemented its popularity with two anime television season adaptations produced by Tezuka Productions. The first season aired from April to June 2023, with Crunchyroll streaming the series as it aired. A second season followed, debuting in July 2024 and also streamed by Crunchyroll. The anime adaptations significantly boosted the manga’s circulation, with copies in print reaching 2.2 million by March 2025.

Kouji Seo is a prolific manga artist known for his romantic comedy and drama series. His notable works include Suzuka, A Town Where You Live (Kimi no Iru Machi), and Fuuka, many of which are interconnected within the “Seo-verse”. Seo’s stories often explore themes of love, loss, and pursuing dreams, frequently featuring protagonists involved in sports or music.
