The series will premiere on NHK Educational TV on September 5 at 6:40 p.m. JST, airing on Fridays for a total of five episodes.
Anime Adaptation Brings Endangered Species Story to Life
The anime is based on Haruka Takagishi’s picture book Latair to Earth Savers ~Zetsumetsu Kigushu ga Oshiete-kureru Koto (Latair and the Earth Savers: What Endangered Species Teach Us), which was originally released in September 2024 with both Japanese and English translation. The story, focused on biodiversity, follows Kanade, an “Earth Saver,” and Latair, a fairy who possesses the ability to transform Kanade into various creatures. Together, they embark on a journey through different ecosystems worldwide, befriending endangered species and learning about their plight, ultimately inspiring a desire to protect them.

The anime’s promotional video features the theme song titled “Chikyū no Orchestra” (Earth Orchestra). The song is performed by Yukari Tamura, who also voices Latair, alongside the “Earth Savers,” which includes Reo Tanie (Kanade) and a children’s choir. The video also introduces a dance choreographed specifically for the theme song, giving viewers a glimpse into the anime’s visual and auditory style.
Creative Minds Behind the Series
The production of Latair the Earth benefits from a notable creative team. Shōji Kawamori, known for his work on the Macross franchise, is supervising the work. French artist Thomas Romain, recognized for his contributions to Oban Star-Racers and Code Lyoko, serves as the illustrator for the project.
