About Let This Grieving Soul Retire!
The Let This Grieving Soul Retire! anime series, titled Nageki no Bōrei wa Intai Shitai in Japanese, is based on the light novel series by Tsukikage with illustrations by Chyko. The story is set in a fantasy world brimming with adventurers and revolves around Krai Andrey, the esteemed leader of the “Grieving Souls,” a top hunter party comprising his childhood friends.
Despite his reputation as an exceptionally strong hero with the title “Thousand Tricks,” Krai’s reality is far different. He possesses no special talents and his numerous accomplishments are largely a result of his immensely overpowered friends and an extraordinary amount of luck (or misfortune, depending on perspective). Krai’s constant desire to retire from the demanding life of a hero is thwarted by the persistent misunderstandings of those around him, who interpret his every action and utterance as profound strategies or hints. This comedic premise drives the narrative, focusing on Krai’s reluctant heroism and the often hilarious predicaments he finds himself in due to his undeserved reputation.
Production and Streaming
The anime is directed by Masahiro Takata at animation studio Zero-G, with Hideki Shirane handling the series composition. Character designs are provided by Yūsuke Isōchi and Shingo Fujisaki, and Ryōhei Sataka is composing the music.
For fans in English-speaking regions, Crunchyroll is streaming Let This Grieving Soul Retire!, making it accessible to a wide international audience. J-Novel Club publishes the English language version of the original light novels, while Yen Press handles the manga adaptation. The second cour’s continuation promises more of Krai Andrey’s unwitting adventures and the further expansion of his quirky world with the introduction of new characters like Artbaran Henning and Mary Auden.
