Yunosuke Yoshinaga, the creator of Break Blade, is launching a new manga series titled Mahō Kikai Ningen (Magical Mechanical Human). The new series will debut in the 35th issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal Zero magazine, which goes on sale July 9, 2025.

Who is Yunosuke Yoshinaga?

Yunosuke Yoshinaga is a Japanese manga artist best known for his series Break Blade (ブレイク ブレイド, Bureiku Bureido). Break Blade was serialized in various Flex Comix magazines from September 2006 to October 2022 and compiled into 20 volumes. The manga was also adapted into a series of six anime films.

Break Blade is set in a world called Cruzon, where people are born with the ability to control quartz, which allows them to levitate objects or control giant, complex mobile battle suits called Golems. The story follows Rygart Arrow, a rare “non-sorcerer” who cannot control quartz, but who becomes the pilot of an ancient and powerful Golem.

What is Mahō Kikai Ningen About?

Details about the plot of Mahō Kikai Ningen (Magical Mechanical Human) are currently scarce, but the title suggests a blend of magic and technology, a theme that Yoshinaga explored in Break Blade. The manga will appear in Young Animal Zero, a magazine known for seinen manga, which typically targets a young adult male audience.

Break Blade: A Retrospective

Before diving into Yoshinaga’s new project, it’s worth revisiting his most famous work, Break Blade. The manga series, which ran from 2006 to 2022, is set in a world where people can control quartz to power machines called Golems. The story revolves around Rygart Arrow, an “un-sorcerer” who can’t use quartz but becomes the pilot of an ancient Golem.

Break Blade is notable for its mecha action, war themes, and character development. The anime adaptation consists of six films that were released between 2010 and 2011. While the films mostly follow the manga’s story, the sixth film deviates from the manga to conclude the story with its own ending.

The Future of Manga

Yoshinaga’s new manga series is a highly anticipated addition to the manga landscape. With his established reputation and a new intriguing concept, Mahō Kikai Ningen has the potential to captivate fans and attract new readers. The combination of magic and mechanical elements, along with Yoshinaga’s storytelling, promises an exciting series.
