The manga adaptation of Yuri Yumemi’s popular light novel series, “Witches Can’t Be Collared” (Majo ni Kubiwa wa Tsukerarenai), has officially concluded with the publication of its final chapter. The series wrapped up in the October issue of Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine, released on Thursday.
Final Volume Release Details
Fans can anticipate the release of the second and final compiled book volume of the manga in Japan on October 3. This volume will complete the physical collection of the adaptation, which began serialization in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine in October 2024, with its first volume shipping in March 2025.
The Story of Rogue and the Collared Witches
The “Witches Can’t Be Collared” narrative plunges into a world where magic, once exclusive to the nobility, has spread to the masses, leading to a surge in crime rates. To combat this, the Empire established a bureau dedicated to investigating magical offenses. The story centers on Rogue, a detective known for his physical prowess, who is unexpectedly reassigned to the sixth branch office.
There, he is tasked with working alongside witches who, despite their dangerous pasts and immense powers, are bound with collars to restrict their abilities. Rogue’s primary partner is “the Puppeteer,” a charming yet manipulative witch who delights in toying with him as they work to solve magical crimes.
Origin in Light Novels
The manga adaptation, illustrated by Makuei, is based on the highly acclaimed light novel series written by Yuri Yumemi and illustrated by Wata. The original light novels commenced publication under ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint in February 2024, with the third volume having shipped in Japan on June 10.
The light novel series has garnered significant recognition, including winning the Grand Prize at the 30th Dengeki Novel Prize in 2023. For English-speaking audiences, Yen Press has licensed the light novel series, with its first volume slated for publication in August 2025.
