Manga artists est em and Sayaka Mogi are set to launch new manga series on Hayakawa Publishing’s Hayacomic website. The announcement was made on July 29, though specific release dates for the new titles have yet to be revealed.
Est em Adapts Award-Winning Novel “The Remains of the Day”
Est em will draw a manga adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s critically acclaimed novel, The Remains of the Day, titled Hi no Nagori in Japanese. The original 1989 novel, which won the Booker Prize for Fiction, delves into the life of Stevens, a butler recounting his years of service to an English aristocrat. The novel also inspired an eight-time Academy Award-nominated film in 1993, starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson.
Est em is known for a diverse range of works, including Age Called Blue, IPPO, Seduce Me After the Show, and Golondrina. Her most recent ongoing series, Ō-sama no Mimi: Himitsu no Bar e Yōkoso (King’s Ear), began serialization in Shogakukan’s Josei Seven magazine in May 2021, with its fifth compiled volume published in September 2024.
Sayaka Mogi Unveils “The Black Cat Doctor and the Frayed Patients”
Meanwhile, Sayaka Mogi is set to release Kuroneko Sensei to Hotsureta Kanja-tachi (The Black Cat Doctor and the Frayed Patients). This new series is described as a “dark fairy tale fantasy” set within a hospital.
Mogi has been actively publishing, having recently launched Happy Hypoxia -Haiiro no Ko- (Happy Hypoxia -The Grey Child-) on Futabasha’s Web Action manga website on June 10. Her “interspecies coming-of-age sci-fi” manga, Girl, Meat Girl, concluded on February 13, having launched in Asahi Shimbun Publications’ Nemuki+ magazine in February 2023. Mogi is also recognized for her horror manga Pupa, which debuted in 2011 and inspired a 12-episode anime adaptation in 2014.
