The popular action-romantic comedy manga series Marriage Toxin, written by Joumyaku and illustrated by Mizuki Yoda, is officially receiving a television anime adaptation, slated for release in 2026. Shueisha made the announcement, which included a teaser trailer, a visual, and key cast and staff details for the upcoming series.
First serialized on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ mobile app and website in April 2022, Marriage Toxin has garnered a significant following for its unique blend of assassin action and romantic comedy.
A Deadly Assassin’s Quest for Love
The story of Marriage Toxin centers on Hikaru Gero, a skilled assassin from the ancient Poison Clan. Despite his lethal expertise, Gero is completely inept at romance and has no interest in marriage, believing it’s not for him. However, his family issues an ultimatum: if he doesn’t marry and produce an heir to continue their lineage, his younger sister, Akari, will be forced into an unwanted marriage.
To protect his sister’s chance at true love with her girlfriend, Gero desperately seeks help from an unlikely source: Mei Kinosaki, a notorious marriage swindler. Kinosaki, who is actually a man skilled at impersonating women to con others, agrees to coach Gero on the intricacies of dating and charm, turning the stoic killer into a potential husband-to-be. This unlikely duo embarks on a “matchmaking battle” that often involves navigating the criminal underworld, leading to bizarre and hilarious adventures.
Key Staff and Cast Revealed for the Anime
The upcoming Marriage Toxin anime will be directed by Motonobu Hori, known for his work on Carole & Tuesday and Metallic Rouge. The animation production will be handled by Bones Film, a studio well-regarded for its dynamic action sequences and animation quality.
The main voice cast announced so far includes:
- Haruki Ishiya as Hikaru Gero. Ishiya is known for his role as Daiya in 86 EIGHTY-SIX.
- Shion Wakayama as Mei Kinosaki. Wakayama has previously voiced Momo in DAN DA DAN.

- Kimiko Ueno (Astro Note, ZENSHU) will be in charge of the script and series composition.

Since its debut in April 2022, Marriage Toxin has released 14 tankōbon volumes as of August 2025. The series is published simultaneously in English on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus app. Viz Media has licensed the manga for English release under the title Marriage Toxin, with volumes being published under their Shonen Jump imprint.
