Masahiro Anbe’s romantic comedy manga, Akuma de Fukei! (Demon Policewoman!), is set to end with its next chapter. The conclusion will bring the story of the demon policewoman Eclair and her human coworker Daichi Kuwahara to a close.
The Premise of Akuma de Fukei!
Akuma de Fukei! centers on Eclair, a demon who travels from the netherworld to a rural countryside police station in Japan. Her mission is to find an “evil human” to become her servant. She sets her sights on Daichi Kuwahara, a stern-faced police officer, believing him to be the perfect candidate. The series then unfolds as a battle of wits and a quirky romantic comedy, with Eclair attempting to “tame” Daichi, while he endeavors to send her back to the demon world. Despite their conflicting goals, Eclair often proves to be quite useless, leading Daichi to begrudgingly look after her.

The manga, whose title can be interpreted as “Disrespecting the Devil” or “Protecting the Devil” due to the hiragana spelling of “fukei,” first launched in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine in February 2025. This marked Anbe’s first serialization in the magazine. The first compiled book volume of Akuma de Fukei! was slated for release in June 2025 by Kodansha’s Young Maga KC Special imprint.
Masahiro Anbe’s Illustrious Career
Masahiro Anbe is a well-known Japanese manga artist, widely recognized for his popular series Squid Girl (Shinryaku! Ika Musume). Squid Girl, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Champion from 2007 to 2016, achieved significant popularity and was adapted into two 12-episode television anime series in 2010 and 2011. Crunchyroll streamed both anime seasons, and Media Blasters and Sentai Filmworks handled home video releases.
Prior to Akuma de Fukei!, Anbe also serialized Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyū-bu (Assemble! Mystery Research Club) in Weekly Shōnen Champion, which concluded in July 2024.
