“Mechanical Marie” continued its anime run with Episode 7, which premiered on November 16, 2025, delving into Arthur Louis Zetes’s strained past with a supposed friend during a joint sports festival. The episode sees Marie, the “mechanical maid” with a hidden human identity, resolve to protect Arthur after he revisits painful memories of betrayal involving Daryl, a student from a sister institution.
A Deceitful Friendship Unveiled at the Sports Festival
Episode 7, titled “The Joint Sports Festival Begins, Arthur Confronts His Past with Daryl,” centers on a joint sports event between Marie’s school and a sister school, which introduces Daryl, a character believed to be Arthur’s close friend. However, Arthur’s behavior towards Daryl is notably tense, hinting at an unresolved history. During the equestrian event, Arthur suffers an unexpected fall, leading Marie, in her role as a robot maid, to urge him to confide in her.
Arthur then recounts a painful chapter from his past, revealing that he and Daryl once shared a strong bond forged through mutual hardships, becoming inseparable companions. The emotional weight of the revelation is significant as Arthur discloses the shocking truth: their friendship was a facade, and Daryl’s kindness was a calculated ruse designed to undermine him. Witnessing Arthur’s anguish and understanding the depth of his past betrayal, Marie resolves to confront Daryl directly.
The Premise of “Mechanical Marie”
The anime series “Mechanical Marie” is based on the romantic comedy manga written and illustrated by Aki Akimoto. The narrative centers on Marie, a former martial arts prodigy who, due to familial debt, accepts a clandestine role as a “mechanical maid” for Arthur Louis Zetes, the heir to a powerful conglomerate. Arthur, disillusioned by constant assassination attempts from his greedy relatives, despises humans and places his trust solely in emotionless objects.
Marie’s naturally expressionless demeanor proves advantageous in maintaining her disguise as a robot, allowing her to flawlessly perform her duties while secretly protecting Arthur from ongoing threats. The core tension of the series stems from Marie’s precarious secret – exposure of her human identity would lead to immediate execution. Complications arise as Arthur, despite his misanthropy, develops strong feelings for his “perfect” maid, leading to a comedic and nerve-wracking dynamic as he frequently comes close to uncovering her true identity.
