Fans of high-octane racing anime can mark their calendars: MF Ghost Season 3 is officially slated to premiere in January 2026. The announcement, accompanied by a new teaser visual, was made on September 16, 2025, during the “Initial D 30th Anniversary 2days” event held at Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka, Japan.
Continuing the Legacy of Speed
MF Ghost, a spiritual successor to Shuichi Shigeno’s iconic Initial D, continues the adrenaline-fueled world of street racing in a near-future setting. Set in the 2020s, the series depicts a Japan where self-driving electric automobiles have largely rendered traditional gasoline-powered engines obsolete. However, a niche but globally popular racing circuit known as MFG thrives, bringing together elite drivers to compete on public roads with internal combustion engine cars.
The third season is expected to dive deeper into the intense MFG third round, specifically “The Peninsula Manazuru” race, promising more thrilling battles and strategic maneuvers.
The Story So Far
The anime centers on Kanata Katagiri, also known as Kanata Rivington, a 19-year-old Japanese-British prodigy racer who returns to Japan from Britain. His primary goals are to compete in the MFG races and, crucially, to find his long-lost father. It’s revealed that Kanata received his elite training from none other than Takumi Fujiwara, the legendary protagonist of Initial D. The series masterfully blends heart-pounding racing action with Kanata’s personal quest, captivating audiences with its fast-paced narrative and detailed automotive culture.
Both previous seasons of MF Ghost premiered in October, with Season 1 in 2023 and Season 2 in 2024. Crunchyroll has been streaming the series, making it accessible to a global audience.
