The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved, which premiered in Japan on June 27, 2025, has unveiled its non-credit opening, alongside details on additional cast members and new visuals. Directed by Tatsuya Ishihara at Kyoto Animation, the film continues the beloved slice-of-life narrative from the popular manga by Coolkyoushinja.

Non-Credit Opening and Thematic Music

The film has revealed its non-credit opening, offering a glimpse into the animated sequence that accompanies the main theme. Japanese music group fhána, a familiar presence from the television series, performs the film’s opening theme song, “Namida no Parade” (“Parade of Tears”). Additionally, veteran singer Sachiko Kobayashi lends her voice to the ending theme song, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Days of Us”).

Expanding the Voice Cast

The film introduces several new voices to the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid universe. Fumihiko Tachiki joins the cast as Kimun Kamui, and Nobunaga Shimazaki takes on the role of Azad. Notably, Shiori Sugiura steps in to voice Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022. Furthermore, singer Sachiko Kobayashi not only performs the ending theme but also voices the character Felicitas, a dragon within Kimun Kamui’s army, marking her first time voicing a dragon character. Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro also join the cast to voice fairies.

Returning Fan Favorites

Fans will be pleased to know that the core cast from the television series reprises their roles in the film. Mutsumi Tamura returns as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna. The returning ensemble also includes Yūki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa, Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi.

Visuals and Theatrical Release

Ahead of its release, the film unveiled a new key visual and a set of eight character visuals, showcasing both established characters and a new antagonist. A collaboration visual by original manga author Coolkyoushinja and character designer Miku Kadowaki was also released. The film, titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved, held advance screenings in Japan on May 26, 2025, before its formal opening on June 27 in 199 theaters, including immersive 4DX and MX4D screenings. Crunchyroll has acquired the worldwide theatrical rights for the film, excluding Asia, and plans to screen the movie in North America with Japanese audio and English subtitles.
