The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryū), has unveiled its non-credit opening, detailed additional cast members, and released new captivating visuals ahead of its theatrical release. The movie premiered in Japan on June 27, 2025.

Non-Credit Opening Featuring fhána’s “Namida no Parade”

The film’s opening theme song is “Namida no Parade” (“Parade of Tears”) performed by fhána, a returning musical group from the series. An English-subtitled special trailer for the film, released in April 2025, provided a preview of this opening song. The official movie trailer also showcases the opening theme.

Expanded Voice Cast Introduces Key Characters

The movie introduces several new and returning voices to its cast, enriching the narrative with pivotal characters. Notably, Fumihiko Tachiki joins as Kimun Kamui, Kanna’s father, who plays a central role in the film’s plot by attempting to bring Kanna back to the Dragon World. Nobunaga Shimazaki voices Azad.

Furthermore, Shiori Sugiura takes over the role of Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022. Additional cast members revealed include Shinya Takahashi as the middle-aged fairy and Azusa Tadokoro as the fairy girl. Veteran singer Sachiko Kobayashi has also been cast as Felicitas.

The film features the returning main cast, with Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna. Other returning voice actors include Yūki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa, Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi.

Striking New Visuals Released

To commemorate the film’s release, a special collaboration visual was unveiled. This visual was co-drawn by the original Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid manga author Coolkyousinnjya and the anime’s character designer Miku Kadowaki. It depicts Kanna, Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru drawn by Coolkyousinnjya, alongside Kimun Kamui and Azad drawn by Miku Kadowaki, set against a backdrop suggesting an impending conflict.

Earlier, a new key visual for the film was also revealed at AnimeJapan 2025.

The film, directed by Tatsuya Ishihara at Kyoto Animation, follows the peaceful lives of Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Iruru being disrupted when Kanna’s father, Kamun Kamui, leader of the Chaos Forces, demands her return to the Dragon World. As a war brews between Chaos and Harmony, Kanna finds herself torn between her two families, while Miss Kobayashi endeavors to mend Kanna and Kamui’s fractured bond.
