Bandai Namco Filmworks announced at San Diego Comic-Con International that the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans – Urðr Hunt anime is slated to open in Japanese theaters in October. A North American release is also planned.
The Journey to the Big Screen
Urðr Hunt was initially revealed in 2019 as a spin-off to the popular Iron-Blooded Orphans TV anime series. It was originally distributed as a nine-part short anime alongside the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans G mobile app game, which has since ceased service. The decision to adapt the game’s story into a standalone anime film was officially announced in November 2023.
Setting and Story Details
The Urðr Hunt narrative is set in the year P.D. 323, taking place chronologically between the first and second seasons of the original Iron-Blooded Orphans anime. The story centers on Wistario Afam, a young man from the Radonitsa Colony near Venus. Venus, a planet largely ignored by the four economic blocs and used as a penal colony, serves as the backdrop for Wistario’s quest to change his homeland’s status quo. His journey leads him to encounter a mysterious girl who claims to be a guide to the “Urðr-Hunt,” a prize race with substantial monetary rewards. Through this competition, Wistario gradually uncovers the mystery behind the race. He pilots the enigmatic Gundam Hajiroboshi.
