A new trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Urðr Hunt – Path of the Little Challenger has revealed the upcoming release of a new short anime film titled “Makuai no Kusabi” (Kusabi of the Interlude). The short film will screen alongside the Urðr Hunt compilation film, which is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on October 31, 2025. This dual release is part of the 10th-anniversary project for the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans series.
“Makuai no Kusabi” Features Returning Characters and Staff
The newly announced short film, “Makuai no Kusabi,” will feature fan-favorite characters Mikazuki Augus and Orga Itsuka, with Kengo Kawanishi and Yoshimasa Hosoya reprising their roles. The narrative of this new short is set chronologically between the first and second seasons of the original Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans television series.
Key staff from the original series are also returning for this project, including director Tatsuyuki Nagai and screenwriter Mari Okada. Other returning staff members include original character designer Yū Itō, character designer Michinori Chiba, and mechanical designers Naohiro Washio and Kanetake Ebikawa.
Urðr Hunt Compilation Film Details
The Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Urðr Hunt – Path of the Little Challenger is a special compilation film that adapts the Urðr Hunt mobile game into an anime format for the first time. The original Urðr Hunt was a spin-off game featuring anime footage, with 12 episodes released via the now-defunct Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans G smartphone app. The compilation film will include re-edited and re-formatted content from these original 12 episodes, alongside new animation cuts.
The story of Urðr Hunt follows Wistario Afam, a young man from the Radonitsa Colony near Venus, who seeks to change the status quo of his home planet. His journey begins when he encounters a girl claiming to be the guide to the “Urdr-Hunt.”
The Original Iron-Blooded Orphans Series
The original Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans television anime series first premiered in Japan in October 2015 and ran for two seasons, totaling 50 episodes. The series is known for its grounded narrative focusing on the struggles of child soldiers and the harsh realities of their world. It is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll with English dubs and subtitles.
Release and North American Plans
Both Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Urðr Hunt – Path of the Little Challenger and the new “Makuai no Kusabi” short film are scheduled for a theatrical release in Japan on October 31, 2025.
