The upcoming anime adaptation of Makoto Kudo’s workplace romantic comedy manga, My Awkward Senpai (Bukiyō na Senpai.), has released its second main trailer, offering a preview of its ending theme song, “Bukiyō ni Kimi no Tonari” (Awkwardly Next to You) by Ami Maeshima. The series is set to premiere on October 2, 2025, on Tokyo MX and other networks.
A Glimpse into the Workplace Romance
The new trailer provides a deeper look into the dynamic between the titular awkward senpai, Azusa Kannawa, and her cheerful kouhai, Yu Kamegawa. Fans can now hear a snippet of the heartfelt ending theme, performed by Ami Maeshima, who also voices the character Miho Hotta in the anime. The series centers on Kannawa, a 27-year-old office worker often perceived as strict and cold due to her awkwardness, and her evolving feelings for her new, easygoing, and somewhat nerdy junior, Kamegawa.
Premiere Details and Streaming Information
My Awkward Senpai will officially begin its broadcast in Japan on October 2, 2025. It will air on Tokyo MX at 10:00 p.m. JST, followed by BS NTV at 11:00 p.m. JST. Japanese streaming services U-NEXT and Anime Hōdai will also carry the series, with streaming beginning on October 2 at 10:30 p.m. JST, and other services joining on October 6. As of now, no Western streaming service has announced plans to stream the anime.
Production Team and Voice Cast
The anime is being produced by Studio Elle, with Ayumu Kotake (known for Acro Trip) directing the series. Mio Inoue (Slow Start) is handling the series composition and scripts, while Kenro Tokuda is responsible for character designs. Koji Fujimoto is composing the music.
The main cast bringing the office romance to life includes:

Opening Theme and Manga Background
In addition to the newly previewed ending song, the anime’s opening theme, titled “Bukiyō na I love you” (The Awkward I love you), will be performed by angela. This opening theme was previously teased in an earlier trailer released in July 2025.
The My Awkward Senpai anime is adapted from Makoto Kudo’s original manga series, which first began as a webcomic on Kudo’s Twitter account in March 2019. It later began serialization in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine in December 2019. Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global app and Comikey publish the manga in English. As of September 2025, the manga has been collected into ten tankōbon volumes. The manga’s story revolves around Kannawa-senpai’s struggles with her awkwardness, especially after meeting her amiable kouhai, Kamegawa.
