The highly anticipated anime adaptation of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has officially announced its premiere date and revealed the main cast. A teaser trailer and visual were released, giving fans their first glimpse of the animated spin-off. The anime is slated to debut on April 7, 2025, bringing the world of vigilante heroes to the small screen.

Premiere Date and Broadcast Details

The anime will air every Monday at 11:00 PM JST on Tokyo MX and BS Nippon TV, starting April 7, 2025. Additionally, it will be broadcast on Yomiuri TV every Monday at 1:59 AM JST, beginning April 8, 2025. This scheduling ensures fans across Japan can catch the latest episodes. Digital distribution details are expected to be announced at a later date.

Main Cast and Characters

The core cast of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been unveiled, featuring talented voice actors who will bring the beloved characters to life:

  • Shuichiro Umeda will voice Koichi Haimawari, also known as The Crawler, the series’ main protagonist. Koichi is a college freshman who, unable to become an official hero, begins vigilante activities after meeting Knuckleduster. He uses his modest quirk to help people.
  • Ikumi Hasegawa will voice Pop Step, a self-proclaimed freelance idol who performs guerilla live shows. She joins Koichi and Knuckleduster in their vigilante activities.
  • Yasuhiro Mamiya will voice Knuckleduster, a powerful but unqualified hero. He acts as Koichi’s mentor, introducing him to the world of vigilantes. Knuckleduster sees potential in Koichi and takes him under his wing.

These three actors will portray the central trio who navigate the complex world of unsanctioned heroics.

Story and Setting

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spin-off manga series written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court, based on Kohei Horikoshi’s original work. It serves as a prequel to the main My Hero Academia storyline, taking place several years before the events of the original series.

The story focuses on the vigilantes – unsung heroes who operate outside the law. They risk their lives to help others despite not receiving the recognition and authorization granted to official heroes. The series explores the challenges and moral ambiguities of their actions, contrasting their efforts with the established hero system. The narrative follows Koichi Haimawari, who, despite lacking the qualifications of a hero, is driven to help those in need. A chance encounter leads him to team up with Pop Step and Knuckleduster, setting them on the path of vigilante justice.

Production Details

The anime is being produced by Bones Film, a newly established company under the renowned animation studio Bones, known for their work on the main My Hero Academia series. The production team includes:

  • Director: Kenichi Suzuki (Cells at Work!, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
  • Series Composition & Script: Yosuke Kuroda (Returning from the main My Hero Academia anime)
  • Character Design: Takahiko Yoshida (Yowamushi Pedal, Cells at Work!)
  • Music: Yuki Hayashi (Returning from the main anime), Shogo Yamashiro, Yuki Furuhashi
  • Art Director: Yukihiro Watanabe
  • Color Design: Haruko Nobori
  • Director of Photography: Yingying Zhang
  • 3DCG Director: Mizuki Sasaki
  • Sound Director: Masafumi Mima
  • Editing: Kiyoshi Hirose

This strong production team promises a high-quality adaptation that stays true to the source material while delivering a fresh, dynamic anime experience.

Teaser Trailer and Visuals

The newly released teaser trailer and key visual offer a glimpse into the anime’s aesthetic and action sequences. The trailer introduces the main trio, Koichi, Pop Step, and Knuckleduster, showcasing their early interactions and highlighting the dynamic action scenes that fans can expect. The visuals reveal the anime forms of the characters, building anticipation for the premiere.

Manga Origins

The My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manga was serialized from 2016 to 2022, initially debuting in Shueisha’s Jump GIGA magazine before moving to Shonen Jump+. The series consists of 15 compiled volumes, and Viz Media has licensed it for English release. The manga provides the foundation for the anime and offers a rich backstory that the adaptation aims to explore.

A Deeper Look into the Vigilantes

The series offers a compelling look at the different motivations for becoming a hero. While official heroes are celebrated, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes delves into the lives of those who choose to act outside the established system. These “illegal” heroes often go unnoticed, working in the shadows to protect the vulnerable.

This spin-off provides a unique perspective on the hero society introduced in the main series, posing questions about who gets to be a hero and what it truly means to do good. The characters, driven by a sense of justice, show that heroism can take many forms, whether sanctioned or not.

Anticipation and Fan Excitement

The announcement of the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime has generated significant excitement among fans. The series promises to expand the universe of My Hero Academia, offering new stories, characters, and perspectives. With a strong production team, a talented cast, and a compelling source material, the anime is poised to become a significant addition to the franchise. The premiere on April 7, 2025, is highly anticipated by both long-time fans and newcomers to the series.
