Netflix has officially released a teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, confirming a new standalone anime series set within the gritty universe of Cyberpunk 2077. The announcement, made at Anime Expo 2025, marks the return of the acclaimed collaboration between game developer CD Projekt Red and the renowned animation studio Trigger.
A New Chronicle of Night City
The highly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will present a fresh 10-episode narrative, distinct from the first season’s story of David Martinez. While David’s journey concluded, Night City continues to thrive with new tales of redemption and revenge. The official description poses a compelling question: “When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”
Returning Creative Visionaries
Several key talents from the original Edgerunners series are rejoining the production for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Kai Ikarashi, who previously worked as a storyboard artist and animation director on the first series, will make his directorial debut for this new installment. Bartosz Sztybor, who served as a writer and producer on the initial series, returns as showrunner, story writer, and producer. Additionally, Ichigo Kanno is back as the lead character designer, and Masahiko Otsuka is handling the screenplay adaptation.
Teaser Release and Production Status
The teaser footage for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was initially showcased during a closed-door viewing at Studio Trigger’s panel at Anime Expo 2025, and has since been made publicly available on Netflix’s Anime YouTube channel. While no specific release date has been announced, the series is currently in production and is expected to launch exclusively on Netflix in the future. The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners captivated audiences in September 2022, earning widespread acclaim and even contributing to a resurgence of interest in the Cyberpunk 2077 game. The continuation, now titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 to emphasize its standalone nature rather than a direct “Season 2,” aims to deliver another emotionally evocative and visually stunning experience within the dangerous city.
