The official website for the upcoming “New High School! Kimengumi” television anime has unveiled the cast and a “leader visual” for the “Omegumi” all-girl gang, further expanding the roster of unique characters for the highly anticipated reboot. This marks another significant announcement for the series, which is set to bring Motoei Shinzawa’s classic gag comedy manga into the modern Reiwa era with a fresh adaptation.
The new anime, slated to premiere in January 2026, will air on Fuji TV network’s Noitamina programming block.
Meet the Omegumi: Cast and Characters
Leading the “Omegumi” delinquent girl group is Jako Amano, voiced by M.A.O. Jako is characterized by her long black hair and a cocoa cigarette often held in her mouth, embodying a dignified yet mischievous leader. M.A.O. commented on Jako’s “contrary” nature, highlighting her strong and cool demeanor alongside unexpected glimpses of cuteness and playful charm, making her a truly captivating character.
The other members of the “Omegumi” gang and their respective voice actors include:
- Maki Hidari: Voiced by Kaoru Sakura
- Ikue Sandanhara: Voiced by Sachiko Okada
- Desuko Honba (also listed as Motoba Izuko): Voiced by Marie Ōi
- Kayo Ōba: Voiced by Minami Shindō
These five girls are described as having repeated a year of junior high school and are known for regularly leaving school early, feeling a sense of emptiness in the mundane and constantly seeking excitement.
A Modern Take on a Classic Comedy
The “New High School! Kimengumi” anime is a reboot of Motoei Shinzawa’s popular manga, which originally began as “3-Nen Kimengumi” (Third-Year Funny-Face Club) in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1980 before evolving into “High School! Kimengumi” in 1982. The original television anime adaptation ran from 1985 to 1987.
This new adaptation aims to reintroduce the chaotic and absurd humor of the “Kimengumi” to a new generation, setting the story in the modern Reiwa era. Kazuaki Seki is directing the anime at Animation Studio Seven, with Takashi Nishikawa serving as animation director. Shigeru Murakoshi is overseeing the series scripts, and Yuka Abe is handling character design.
Expanding the Ensemble of Eccentrics
The “Omegumi” cast announcement follows previous revelations about the main “Kimengumi” members and the rival “Udegumi” sports group. The core “Kimengumi” members include:
- Rei Ichidō: Voiced by Tomokazu Seki
- Gō Reietsu: Voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi
- Kiyoshi Shusse: Voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
- Jin Daima: Voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi
- Dai Monohoshi: Voiced by Kikunosuke Toya
Other key characters include Yui Kawa (Haruka Shiraishi) and Chie Uru (Ikumi Hasegawa). The “Udegumi” rival group is led by Kai Undō, voiced by Yusuke Kobayashi.
Night Tempo is producing the project’s songs, and a modern rearrangement of the first anime’s theme song, “Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi,” covered by Haruka Shiraishi and Ikumi Hasegawa, has also been released. With a diverse cast and a modern refresh, the “New High School! Kimengumi” anime is poised to deliver a fresh dose of slapstick school comedy to audiences.
