First Look at the Opening Theme: “Iinazukekkyun”
Fans can now enjoy the full visual spectacle of the second season’s opening without superimposed credits. The vibrant sequence is set to the energetic new opening theme song, “Wo Ai Ni” (I Love You), performed by Wednesday Campanella. Ano’s “Iinazukekkyun,” which was the theme song for the first season, will also be available on music streaming services starting October 9, 2024. The visuals are noted for their chaotic yet faithful representation of the manga’s essence, incorporating chibi-style characters and reflecting the series’ blend of action and comedy.

Returning and New Voice Cast Members
A significant draw for long-time fans is the return of much of the original Japanese voice cast. Kappei Yamaguchi reprises his role as male Ranma Saotome, Megumi Hayashibara as female Ranma, and Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendō. Kōichi Yamadera returns as Ryōga Hibiki, and Rei Sakuma as Shampoo. Other returning cast members include Minami Takayama as Nabiki Tendō and Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi Tendō.
However, the new adaptation also features some casting changes and additions for supporting characters. Akio Ōtsuka takes on the role of Sōun Tendō, replacing Ryunosuke Ohbayashi, while Chō voices Genma Saotome, succeeding Kenichi Ogata. Notably, Kenichi Ogata now serves as the anime’s narrator, a role previously held by the late Tadashi Nakamura.
Season 2 will also introduce new voice talents for fan-favorite characters, including Toshihiko Seki as Mousse, Kaori Nazuka as Ukyo Kuonji, Kazuhiko Inoue as Happosai, Mayama Ako as Cologne, and Akira Ishida as Hikaru Gosunkugi.
The Enduring Legacy of Ranma 1/2 and MAPPA’s Vision
The new Ranma 1/2 anime is produced by Studio MAPPA, known for its work on popular titles such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan. Kōnosuke Uda directs the series, with Kimiko Ueno handling series composition, and Hiromi Taniguchi responsible for character designs. Kaoru Wada returns to compose the music, bringing a familiar touch to the updated adaptation.
The original Ranma 1/2 manga, penned by legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi, was serialized from 1987 to 1996 and remains one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The first anime adaptation by Studio Deen ran from 1989 to 1992, spanning 161 episodes, along with OVAs and films. MAPPA’s contemporary remake aims to adapt the classic martial arts romantic comedy for a new generation while honoring its iconic humor, action, and social commentary on gender roles.
