The world of Hell Teacher Nube is making a thrilling comeback! Fans can rejoice as Sho Makura and Takeshi Okano’s beloved manga series returns with a brand-new serialization and a highly anticipated anime reboot. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know about Nube’s exciting revival.

A One-Shot to Set the Stage

Before diving into the new series, a special one-shot manga, “Hell Teacher Nube: Hyaku Monogatari Kenbunroku” (Record of the Hundred Ghost Stories), was released on Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump website on April 16, 2025. This prequel, initially published in the September 2024 issue of Saikyo Jump, is available for free until June 3rd. The one-shot sets the stage for the upcoming serialization, plunging readers into a chilling tale where Nube and his students bravely venture into a world of ghost stories to rescue Hiro, who has been abducted by a yokai. This story serves as a perfect appetizer, reminding fans of the series’ signature blend of horror, action, and heartwarming moments.

The New Manga Series: Jigoku Sensei Nube Kai

Mark your calendars! The new manga series, titled Jigoku Sensei Nube Kai, is set to debut in the June issue of Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump magazine on May 2, 2025. This marks the first new Nube serialization in four years, since the conclusion of Hell Teacher Nube S in 2021.

What to Expect in Kai

In this upcoming series, Nube is back in action, traversing time and space to save his 5th-grade class—students like Hiroshi and Kyoko—who find themselves trapped inside a dangerous world of ghost stories. This concept harkens back to the August 2024 one-shot, Hell Teacher Nube: Hyaku Monogatari Kenbunroku, reinforcing the theme of Nube and his allies confronting ghostly legends to protect his students.

The Creative Team

Sho Makura is credited with the original work, while Takeshi Okano lends their artistic talents to bring Jigoku Sensei Nube Kai to life. This ensures that the new series will retain the spirit and charm that made the original manga so popular.

A New Anime Adaptation

Adding to the excitement, a brand-new anime series is scheduled to premiere in July 2025 on TV Asahi’s new programming block, “IM Animation W.” This marks the first animated installment in 26 years, since the 1999 OVA Hell Teacher Nube: The Greatest Battle Ever!! The Arrival of Zekki!!.

A Modernized Update

The upcoming anime promises an updated storyline set in the present day. Original series writer Sho Makura has teased that Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube will be a modern update for the franchise. The setting has been refreshed to reflect the Reiwa era, and the students of Class 5-3 have been given a contemporary makeover. Fans can look forward to a completely new look, while still cherishing the familiar charm of Nube.

The Story

For those new to the series, Hell Teacher Nube follows Meisuke Nueno, nicknamed Nube, an exorcist and schoolteacher gifted with the “Oni Hand,” a powerful demon arm. He protects his students from supernatural threats like yokai, ghosts, and curses in this school-based action-horror series.

The Cast and Crew

  • Meisuke Nueno/Nube: Ryōtarō Okiayu reprises his role as the titular character, ensuring a sense of continuity for longtime fans.

  • Katsuya Kimura: Ryōta Iwasaki as Katsuya Kimura, a student in Class 5-3 who is relatively mature for his age.

  • Yukime: Ai Kakuma as Yukime
  • Kyosuke Tamamo: Toshiyuki Morikawa as Kyosuke Tamamo

  • Shizuka Kikuchi: Yui Makino as Shizuka Kikuchi
  • Masaru Kaneda: Shōji Inoyama as Masaru Kaneda
  • Manami Kimura: Miyuri Shimabukuro as Manami Kimura

The anime series is directed by Yasuyuki Oishi (assistant director on Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin), with Fumito Yamada (director of Hell’s Paradise Episode 8) serving as assistant director. Yoshiki Okusa (co-scriptwriter for The Banished Former Hero Lives as He Pleases) is in charge of series composition, and Yu Yoshiyama (Mahoutsukai Precure!!) is handling character design. STUDIO KAI is responsible for the animation production.

The Legacy of Hell Teacher Nube

Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1993 to 1999, Hell Teacher Nube captivated readers with its unique blend of urban legends, school ghost stories, and heartfelt drama. The manga has sold over 29 million copies, solidifying its place as a beloved classic. The series was later re-released in 2006 as 20 volumes.

More Than Just Horror

Hell Teacher Nube isn’t just about scares; it’s about the bond between a teacher and his students. Nube’s unwavering dedication to protecting his students from supernatural threats, combined with his own personal struggles, resonated with readers of all ages.

A Franchise Spanning Decades

  • Sequel Manga: Jigoku Sensei Nube Neo launched in Grand Jump Premium in May 2014 and ended in December 2018, spanning 17 volumes.

A Modern Update

The new anime will be modernizing things to fit with the current time and make some other changes from the classic run to better help the fit. With the changing times and advancements in digital animation, the setting has been updated, and the students of Class 5-3 have been given a modern update. Please look forward to a completely new look while retaining all the charm of Nube.”
