The charming adventures of Kozame-chan, the titular little shark from the Odekake Kozame anime, are set to continue with a second season slated for release in April 2026. The announcement follows the success of its initial run as an original net animation (ONA) and a recently released anime film.
The Journey of Kozame-chan: From Web Manga to Screen
Odekake Kozame (meaning “Little Shark’s Outings”) originated as a web manga by creator Penguin Box, first published on Twitter in June 2021. Its heartwarming slice-of-life stories, following a young shark named Kozame-chan as she explores a nostalgic town, quickly garnered a following.
The First Anime Adaptation
The initial anime adaptation, produced by ENGI, debuted as an ONA series on YouTube in August 2023. This series consisted of 60 episodes, each roughly one minute in length, concluding in May 2024. Kana Hanazawa, who voices Kozame-chan, also performed the anime’s theme song, “Yorimichi” (Detour). Marina Maki directed the series, with Hiroaki Nagashima handling script supervision and writing.
Eiga Odekake Kozame Tokai no Otomodachi Film
Following the ONA series, a new anime project was announced, which was later revealed to be an anime film titled Eiga Odekake Kozame Tokai no Otomodachi (“Little Shark’s Outings The Movie: A Friend in A Big City”). The film opened in Japanese theaters in August 2025. Directed by Chihiro Kumano and animated by ENGI, the movie expands on Kozame-chan’s adventures as she ventures into a bustling city. The film introduces new characters such as Sora, a high school student, and Haruto, alongside returning fan favorites.
What to Expect from the Second Season in April 2026
The upcoming second season in April 2026 is anticipated to continue the gentle and endearing storytelling that has defined the Odekake Kozame franchise. While specific plot details for the new season are yet to be fully revealed, fans can likely look forward to more of Kozame-chan’s innocent discoveries and heartwarming interactions.
The consistent production team, with ENGI handling animation and key staff like Hiroaki Nagashima involved in scripting, suggests a continuation of the beloved aesthetic and narrative style. The series’ charm lies in its depiction of everyday wonders through the eyes of a curious little shark, offering a sense of nostalgia and comfort to viewers.
With the success of both the ONA series and the recent film, the second season of Odekake Kozame will aim to further expand Kozame-chan’s world and introduce new endearing moments for its growing fanbase.
