The On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance manga, written and illustrated by Shinnosuke Kanazawa, is entering a prolonged hiatus due to scheduling changes. The announcement came from Kanazawa’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, July 25, 2025.
Details of the Hiatus
The hiatus for On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance is described as a “long period.” While the manga will be on hold, Kanazawa noted that they might still release illustrations or provide updates for their other series, Gojū Nen-Go no Rōjin Home (Nursing Homes in 50 Years), during this break.
About On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance
On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance, known in Japanese as Kaisha to Shiseikatsu: On to Ofu, centers on two office workers whose professional “on” persona vastly contrasts with their private “off” lives. The manga explores the humorous and often heartwarming antics that ensue when their distinct “on” and “off” modes collide. For instance, the story highlights a male character who dresses in Lolita fashion outside of work and a female character who embraces a punk style.
Publication History
Shinnosuke Kanazawa initially launched the manga as a webcomic on their Twitter account in April 2023. It then began serialization on Pixiv in May 2023. Square Enix later acquired the series and began serializing it on the Pixiv Comic website under their Gangan Pixiv brand in December 2023. Square Enix’s Manga UP! publishes the series in English. The fourth compiled book volume of the manga was shipped by Square Enix on June 20, 2025.
Critical Reception
The series has garnered attention, being nominated for the tenth and eleventh Next Manga Awards in the web category, where it ranked eighteenth in its tenth nomination.
