The One Piece anime is revamping its classic theme song, “We Go!”, with exciting new collaborations for the One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga. Original singer Hiroshi Kitadani, along with Maki Otsuki, and a variety of Hololive VTubers are set to perform fresh versions of the iconic tune over the next two months. This move is part of the anime’s special re-edited broadcast of the Fish-Man Island arc, offering fans a modern take on a beloved story.

A New Spin on a Classic

The One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is not just a simple re-airing of the old episodes. It’s a remastered version with enhanced visuals and a condensed storyline, turning the original 58-episode arc into a 21-episode experience. To further enhance this fresh take, the anime is also featuring updated opening and ending themes.

The opening theme, “We Go!”, originally performed by Hiroshi Kitadani, is getting a series of reimagined versions throughout February and March. The show is currently airing on Sundays at 9:30 AM JST. Each month, a new version of the song will debut, featuring different artists and arrangements. This approach keeps the series fresh and exciting, appealing to both long-time fans and new viewers.

February’s All-Star Lineup

For February’s rendition of “We Go!”, Maki Otsuki is taking center stage, teaming up with Hololive VTubers Fubuki, Houshou Marine, and Tsunomaki Watame. This collaboration brings together the talent of a seasoned anime vocalist with the energetic performances of popular VTubers.

Maki Otsuki is no stranger to the world of One Piece, having previously performed “Dear Sunrise,” the 20th ending theme, as well as the original ending, “memories.” Adding to the excitement, Mine Kushita, who composed “Dear Sunrise,” is also composing this new version of “We Go!”. This ensures a blend of the familiar with a fresh, modern touch. The song will premiere on February 2, and will be available on streaming services the following day.

March’s Unique Collaboration

March will bring another unique collaboration, with TeddyLoid and Tepe producing their version of “We Go!” This version will feature Hololive English members Takanashi Kiara and Hakos Baelz and Hololive Indonesian member Kobo Kanaeru. These VTubers bring international appeal, adding to the global reach of One Piece.

Adding to the star power, original “We Go!” singer Hiroshi Kitadani will also be joining this performance. Kitadani is a legendary figure in the One Piece music scene, also known for singing “We Are!” and “UUUUUS!”. His participation guarantees a connection to the series’ roots while embracing its modern evolution. This version of “We Go!” will debut on March 2, with the streaming release following the next day.

A Brief Hiatus and a Return to Sunday Mornings

The One Piece anime went on a brief hiatus in October 2024, before the One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga began airing on November 3, 2024, which was delayed by a week due to the MLB World Series. The series is set to return on April 6, 2025, and will move to Sunday nights, marking the first time since 2006 that the show will be broadcast in this prime time slot. The current episodes are covering the Egghead Arc, which introduces Dr. Vegapunk on a futuristic island.

This move to Sunday nights demonstrates the enduring popularity of One Piece. The remastered Fish-Man Island arc provides a perfect bridge between the series’ past and present, reminding fans why they fell in love with the Straw Hat Pirates while also building excitement for the continuation of the Egghead arc.

The Enduring Legacy of “We Go!”

“We Go!” holds a special place in the hearts of One Piece fans. It originally served as the 15th opening theme for the anime, and was released as a single by Hiroshi Kitadani in 2011. The song is known for its upbeat and adventurous tone, perfectly capturing the spirit of the Straw Hat Pirates. The song has been a fan favorite since its release and is frequently listened to on various music streaming platforms.

The new renditions of “We Go!” for the One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga honor the original’s energy while introducing new creative twists. By combining classic elements with contemporary talent, the anime ensures that the iconic theme continues to resonate with audiences for generations to come.

Where to Watch

The One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, with the new versions of “We Go!” becoming available on streaming services the day after their broadcast debut. This ensures that fans worldwide can easily access and enjoy the series, and its revitalized theme song.

The collaboration between Hiroshi Kitadani, Maki Otsuki, and the Hololive VTubers signifies the anime’s commitment to innovation while paying tribute to its rich history. The One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is not just a nostalgic look back, but also an exciting step forward for one of the world’s most beloved anime franchises. These new versions of “We Go!” are sure to capture the hearts of fans, old and new, and keep them eagerly awaiting the next episode.
