Anime enthusiasts are buzzing with the news that Kureha’s popular light novel series, “Oni no Hanayome” (The Ogre’s Bride), is officially receiving a television anime adaptation. The announcement has been met with excitement, though specific details regarding the full cast, production staff, an official teaser video, and a comprehensive key visual for the TV series are still eagerly awaited by fans.
The fantasy romance series, also known by its abbreviated title “Onihana,” has garnered significant popularity through its light novels and manga adaptation, boasting over 5.8 million copies in circulation across both formats.
The Ogre’s Bride: A Beloved Romantic Fantasy Series
“Oni no Hanayome” originated as a web novel on Starts Publishing’s Novema! platform in 2019, before being officially published as a light novel series with illustrations by Yū Shiroya starting in October 2020. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Jun Togashi, began serialization in Starts Publishing’s noicomi digital magazine in December 2021. Both the light novel and manga have achieved considerable success, with the manga adaptation winning various awards, including the grand prize at Comic Cmoa’s Minna ga Erabu!! Denshi Comic Taishou 2023.
The story is set in a world where humans and ayakashi (supernatural beings) coexist. It follows Yuzu, an ordinary high school student who lives in the shadow of her younger sister, chosen as the bride of a fox spirit. Yuzu is often treated unfavorably by her family. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a strikingly handsome ogre who claims her as his destined bride. Despite his powerful and seemingly cold-hearted demeanor, this ogre showers Yuzu with absolute affection, leading to a heartwarming and “unconsciously lovey-dovey” romantic fantasy.
Anticipation Builds for Anime Details
While the announcement of the TV anime adaptation itself has generated considerable hype, further information regarding the production team and voice cast for this new series is yet to be fully disclosed. Early reports confirmed the TV anime adaptation in June 2025, accompanied by celebratory illustrations from light novel illustrator Yū Shiroya and manga artist Jun Togashi. These visuals depicted the main characters, igniting fan speculation about the anime’s aesthetic and character designs.
The previously existing “Oni no Hanayome wa Taberaretai” (The Demon’s Bride Wants to Be Eaten), a different manga by Keiko Sakano, received a two-episode original net animation (ONA) in December 2021, featuring voice actors Maaya Uchida as Mashiro and Junichi Suwabe as Shuten-dōji. This new TV series will be the first full-scale television adaptation for Kureha’s “The Ogre’s Bride” light novel series, marking a significant milestone for the franchise.
Fans are eagerly awaiting forthcoming announcements that will unveil the full roster of voice actors bringing Yuzu, Reiya, and other beloved characters to life, as well as the animation studio and key staff members who will shape the visual and narrative direction of “Oni no Hanayome.” The release of an official teaser video and a definitive key visual for the TV anime is expected to further fuel excitement as the production progresses.
