Manga’s Premise and Previous Adaptations
Plus-Sized Misadventures in Love! is based on the romantic comedy manga by Mamakari, which began serialization in Comic CMOA’s Koisuru Soirée label in August 2019. MangaPlaza digitally publishes the official English version of the manga.
The story revolves around Yumeko Koda, a woman who struggles with self-complexes due to her appearance. After a terrible accident, Yumeko wakes up a completely different person, exhibiting a new, hyper-positive attitude and a newfound sense of cuteness. This 180-degree change not only surprises those around her but also begins to positively impact her surroundings, tackling worries and complexes of various supporting characters. The manga’s narrative is described as a “frenzied romantic comedy” that delves into themes of love, work, friendship, and even an attempted murder case. The manga previously inspired a live-action drama adaptation that premiered in 2022.
