A Hiatus for the Professor
Yukinobu Hoshino’s Munakata Kyōju Sekai-hen (Professor Munakata – World Arc), the latest manga in the Munakata Kyōju (Professor Munakata) series, is going on hiatus. The announcement was made in the 11th issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic magazine.
Return Date
The manga is scheduled to return on July 10 with color pages.
Launch and Publication
Hoshino launched the Munakata Kyōju Sekai-hen manga in Big Comic in February 2023. Shogakukan published the manga’s fifth compiled book volume on January 30, 2025.
About the Series
The Munakata Kyōju series revolves around Professor Munakata, an anthropology professor. He explores connections between cultural myths and legends, often delving into mysteries and historical events. Munakata Kyōju Sekai-hen sees the professor heading to England after receiving an invitation from an English university. He then embarks on digging into the myths and history of the world.

Early Life and Career
Born on January 29, 1954, in Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan, Hoshino dropped out of Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music to pursue a manga career in Tokyo. He debuted in 1975 with Kotetsu no Queen.

At 21, Hoshino won the Tezuka Award for Harukanaru Asa. He also received an Excellence Prize at the 2008 Japan Media Arts Festival for Munakata Kyouju Ikouroku.
