The PuniRunes are back for a third season! “PuniRunes Puni 3,” the latest installment in the anime series based on Takara Tomy’s popular PuniRunes toy line, is set to premiere on July 5, 2025. Fans can look forward to catching the show every Saturday at 9:45 a.m. JST on TV Tokyo and five other affiliated channels. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming season.

What are PuniRunes?

PuniRunes are mysterious, squishy creatures that love to be coddled. The anime follows their daily lives alongside Yuka, a fourth-grade girl who adores soft and squishy things. The term “puni-puni” is a Japanese onomatopoeic word that describes something soft and squishy, perfectly capturing the essence of these adorable characters.

The PuniRunes concept originated from a toy line created by Takara Tomy. These digital pets feature a unique design that allows users to “pet” the soft creature inside by inserting their finger into a special hole. This tactile interaction sets PuniRunes apart from other digital pets, making them extra appealing to kids and adults alike.

A New Season Arrives

The official X (formerly Twitter) account for PuniRunes made the announcement of the premiere date. Along with the premiere date, a key visual for the anime was revealed, showcasing the familiar PuniRunes characters:

  • Airun
  • Jewelrun
  • Enerun
  • Raburun
  • Ururun
  • Coorun

The key visual presents two images arranged as a mirror image, yet each holds distinct details.

What to Expect in PuniRunes Puni 3

The new season promises a mix of familiar fun and exciting new elements. The official X account teased a “Puni-puni daily life and Kachi Kochi adventure,” suggesting a blend of the usual heartwarming stories with new, more thrilling escapades. “Kachi Kochi” may imply something hard or frozen, hinting at the introduction of new environments or challenges for the PuniRunes.

Returning Cast and a New Face

Many of the beloved voice actors from previous seasons are returning to reprise their roles, ensuring a sense of continuity and familiarity for long-time fans:

  • Aya Uchida as Raburun
  • Tomohiro Yamaguchi as Ururun
  • Hina Kino as Kuurun

Adding a fresh dynamic to the cast, Fūka Izumi joins as the voice of Jewelrun, a brand-new character. Izumi expressed her excitement about the role, stating, “I will play the role of the new character Jewelrun in PuniRunes Puni 3. Jewelrun is very cute and sparkly! I’ll do my best to get along well with my Puni friends and have fun!”

Fūka Izumi’s previous roles include Meme Bashame in “My Deer Friend Nokotan,” Utena Hiiragi in “Gushing over Magical Girls,” and Rin Rindou in “Highspeed Etoile.” She is also slated to voice Noa Andriette in the upcoming “Virgin Punk” movie in 2025, marking her as a versatile and rising talent in the voice acting industry.
