The highly anticipated second season of the popular “Reincarnated as a Sword” (Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita) anime series is officially slated to debut in Fall 2026. The announcement, made at Anime Expo 2025, also confirmed that the new season will stream exclusively on HIDIVE as it airs in Japan, alongside the unveiling of a new teaser visual.

A Continuation of the Isekai Phenomenon

“Reincarnated as a Sword” quickly garnered a dedicated fanbase following its initial broadcast in late 2022, praised for its unique premise, engaging characters, and appealing visuals. The first season, which ran for 12 episodes from October to December 2022, left audiences eager for more adventures of the sentient sword, affectionately known as “Teacher,” and his cat-eared wielder, Fran. The second season was announced shortly after the finale of the first, in December 2022, building anticipation for its eventual return.

The series is an adaptation of Yuu Tanaka’s original light novels, which began as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narou website in October 2015. Illustrated by LLO, the light novel series has since seen 19 volumes published under Micro Magazine’s GC Novels imprint as of March 2025. Beyond the novels, the franchise has expanded to include a manga adaptation by Tomowo Maruyama, launched in December 2016, and a spin-off manga titled “Reincarnated as a Sword: Another Wish” by Hinako Inoue, which ran from June 2020 to December 2022. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the English licensing rights for both the original light novels and manga adaptation, making the source material widely accessible to international fans.

The Journey of Fran and Teacher Continues

The core premise of “Reincarnated as a Sword” centers on a 30-year-old salaryman who, after a fatal car accident, finds himself reborn in a fantasy world not as a hero or a wizard, but as a magical, sentient sword. Without a name from his past life, he becomes “Teacher” when he encounters Fran, a young beast-girl escaping a life of slavery. Their fated meeting sees Fran becoming his wielder, and together, this unconventional master-student duo embarks on a journey driven by Fran’s desire to grow stronger and Teacher’s quest to understand his new existence. Their adventures involve liberating those in need and bringing justice to the cruel.

Returning Staff and Production Details

Studio C2C, responsible for the animation of the first season, is confirmed to return for the second installment. Shinji Ishihira, known for his work on series like Fairy Tail and Log Horizon, will continue to direct the anime. Takahiro Nagano will again handle the series composition, while Atsuki Saitō is credited as the character designer and chief animation director. Yasuharu Takanashi, who composed the music for the first season, is also returning. The continuity of the creative team aims to maintain the beloved aesthetic and storytelling quality that captivated viewers in the initial season.

The newly unveiled “ultra teaser” visual showcases Fran mid-flight, utilizing Teacher, hinting at the dynamic action and fantastical elements that will continue to define the series. This visual, along with the official debut timeframe, has further ignited excitement among the global anime community.

HIDIVE’s Exclusive Streaming Partnership

HIDIVE, an AMC Networks streaming service, has secured exclusive simulcast rights for “Reincarnated as a Sword” Season 2 in numerous regions, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. This continues their strong relationship with the franchise, as HIDIVE also streamed the first season, providing both subtitled and English-dubbed versions. John Ledford, President of HIDIVE, expressed enthusiasm for the series’ return, noting its consistent popularity since its initial premiere in 2022. The exclusive streaming deal ensures that fans across these territories will have direct access to new episodes as they air in Japan during the Fall 2026 season.
