RetroCrush, the prominent ad-supported streaming service under Cineverse, has announced a significant expansion of its anime catalog, securing exclusive streaming rights for the new women’s keirin anime series Rinkai! and adding fan-favorite titles Terror in Resonance and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. This move reinforces RetroCrush’s position as a destination for both classic and compelling contemporary anime.
Rinkai! Set to Debut in Fall 2025
The highly anticipated sports anime Rinkai! will make its exclusive streaming debut on RetroCrush in Fall 2025. The series, an original mixed-media project by Mixi, delves into the competitive world of women’s keirin, a form of track cycling. Directed by Takaaki Ishiyama and animated by TMS Entertainment’s 6th Studio, Rinkai! brings to life the drama and excitement of the newly formed “RINKAI LEAGUE.”
The anime, which originally aired in Japan from April to June 2024, showcases high-stakes competition blended with character-driven storytelling, following female cyclists from across Japan as they represent their local velodromes. Key voice cast members include Umino Kawamura as Izumi Itō and Azusa Aoi as Nana Hiratsuka. Rico Sasaki performs the opening theme, “Windshifter,” while the main cast delivers the ending theme, “Override!”. Beyond the anime, the Rinkai! universe also includes a manga series titled Rinkai! Azalea, which began serialization in April 2024.
Terror in Resonance and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 Join the Ranks
Adding to its diverse offerings, RetroCrush has also secured streaming rights for two critically acclaimed series: Terror in Resonance and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. While Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 became available on the service recently, Terror in Resonance is slated for a future release.
Terror in Resonance: A Modern Thriller
Directed by the renowned Shinichirō Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) and animated by Studio MAPPA, Terror in Resonance originally aired in 2014. The 11-episode series presents an alternate reality where a shocking terrorist attack devastates Tokyo, leaving only a cryptic online video as a clue. The narrative follows two enigmatic young individuals, Nine and Twelve, as they meticulously execute their mysterious plan. The series is also notable for its compelling soundtrack by acclaimed composer Yoko Kanno. Previously unavailable on many major streaming platforms in recent years, its addition to RetroCrush is expected to be welcomed by fans.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0: A Heart-Wrenching Disaster Story
Released in 2009 by studios BONES and Kinema Citrus, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is an emotionally impactful disaster series that offers a realistic portrayal of a major earthquake striking Tokyo. The 11-episode anime centers on Mirai, a middle school girl, and her younger brother, Yuuki, as they attempt to navigate the destruction and return home after an 8.0 magnitude tremor. They encounter Mari, a motorcycle delivery woman, who guides them through the devastated cityscape. The series is celebrated for its harrowing and authentic depiction of the practical and psychological aftermath of a natural disaster. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is already available for streaming on RetroCrush, including its Amazon Channel, and for free with ads on The Roku Channel. RetroCrush is further enhancing the viewing experience by introducing a “Rewatching” format, complete with official discussion threads on Reddit, encouraging community engagement.
