The manga series “Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty” (Rock wa Lady no Tashinamideshite) by Hiroshi Fukuda has officially gone on hiatus. The announcement was made in this year’s 14th issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine, though no specific return date was provided, stating the hiatus would be “for a while.”
“Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty” is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hiroshi Fukuda, who also created “Mushibugyō” and “Gofun-go no Sekai”. The series began serialization in Hakusensha’s seinen manga magazine Young Animal in October 2022. As of March 28, 2025, seven tankōbon volumes have been released in Japan. Yen Press has licensed the series for English publication, with the first volume slated for release in September 2025.
The story centers on Lilisa Suzunomiya, a young student at the elite Oshin Girls’ Academy. Despite being adopted into a wealthy family, Lilisa works diligently to maintain the facade of a cultured and sophisticated student to win the school’s “Noble Maiden” title, which requires her to give up her passion for playing the guitar. However, a chance encounter with fellow student Otoha Kurogane, who secretly loves drums and rock music, reignites Lilisa’s hidden passion, leading them to form a band.
An anime television series adaptation of “Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty,” produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, aired from April to June 2025 for 13 episodes. HIDIVE streamed the anime in North America.
