The highly anticipated second part of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun 2nd Season has officially announced Ryōka Yuzuki as the voice of Sumire. This casting news comes as the supernatural comedy anime continues its latest installment, which premiered on July 6, 2025.
Anime’s Expanding Narrative
The Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun anime, based on AidaIro’s popular manga, first captivated audiences with its initial season in 2020. A “restarting” of the anime project was announced in December 2022, leading to a second season that aired from January to March 2025. The current release, featuring Yuzuki, is a direct continuation, often referred to as the “second part of the second season” or a “sequel to season 2.” Crunchyroll is streaming the new season, including an English dub.
The production continues under the direction of Yōhei Fukui at Lerche, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi returning for series scripts and Mayuka Itou as character designer, both from the first season. Masayoshi Ōishi performs the opening theme song “Kagome Kagome,” while Akari Kitō performs the ending theme “mo∞ent” for this current part.
Unveiling Sumire’s Enigmatic Presence
Sumire is a character with significant depth within the Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun narrative. She made her debut in Chapter 66 of the manga, and is connected to the Akane family, a lineage described as having children offered to God due to their coveted bloodline. While her full name is suspected to be Akane Sumire, this was confirmed by Teru in Chapter 70 of the manga.
Historically, Sumire served as a “kannagi” (a shrine maiden who mediates with a deity or spirits) for sacrifice. She holds a deep love for No. 6 and has been depicted attempting to substitute Nene as a sacrifice in hopes of eliciting a response from him. Sumire’s personality possesses a manipulative, at times even sadistic, facet. She has shown an enjoyment in having absolute control over others, viewing Nene and Hanako-kun as newfound “pets.”
Ryōka Yuzuki: A Voice Acting Veteran
Bringing Sumire’s complex character to life is Ryōka Yuzuki, a seasoned Japanese actress and voice actress known for her diverse range of roles across numerous anime series. Yuzuki’s extensive career includes iconic performances such as Satsuki Kiryūin in Kill la Kill, Ino Yamanaka in Naruto and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and Shizuka Hiratsuka in My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax. Her rich experience promises to add intricate layers to Sumire’s portrayal, further enhancing the unfolding story of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun.
