The popular isekai anime, Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four!, has officially launched its English dub, much to the delight of international fans. The series, which premiered its subtitled version earlier this month, began streaming its English dubbed episodes on January 20, bringing a fresh take on the isekai genre to a wider audience.

English Dub Cast Revealed

Crunchyroll, the streaming platform hosting the series, has announced the voice cast for the English dub. Joshua Waters takes on the role of the protagonist, Dennosuke Uchimura, the salaryman who finds himself transported to another world. Taylor Murphy voices Ulmandra, while the imposing Demon Overlord is voiced by John Burgmeier. The cast also includes Monica Rial as Gnome, William Ofoegbu as Sylphid, and Reagan Murdock as Tarius. Additionally, Alex Hom voices Lord Ogure, and Erica Muse is also part of the cast. Lee George is directing the English dub.

A Unique Isekai Story

Based on the manga by Benigashira and Muramitsu, Headhunted to Another World stands out in the crowded isekai genre. Instead of a typical high school student, the protagonist is Uchimura Dennosuke, an ordinary Japanese salaryman who dies in a traffic accident. Reincarnated in a fantasy world, he is summoned by the Demon King and surprisingly, offered a position as one of his Four Heavenly Kings.

From Office Worker to Demon Lord’s Right Hand

The anime cleverly uses Uchimura’s past as a salaryman. He doesn’t gain any special powers in this new world, rather he relies on his office skills and business acumen to navigate the challenges of his new position. This unique approach subverts typical isekai tropes and provides a fresh, humorous take on the genre. Uchimura’s problem-solving skills and real-world experience quickly earn him the trust and respect of his demon colleagues.

Reimagining the Isekai Protagonist

Unlike most isekai heroes, Uchimura doesn’t obtain an overpowered ability upon arriving in this new world, nor does he receive a seemingly weak power that turns out to be secretly incredible. His best traits from his former life are the very reason he was summoned, proving that his skills as a human are what make him a valuable asset to the Demon King. This emphasis on his previous life and the skills he gained from it, sets this series apart from others in the genre. It allows for a unique juxtaposition between his mundane former life and his extraordinary new one.

Production and Streaming Details

The anime is produced by Geek Toys and CompTown, who previously collaborated on “Migi and Dali.” Michio Fukuda directs the series, with Hiroko Fukuda handling series composition, and Ayumi Nishihata in charge of character design. The music is composed by Takafumi Wada.

Where to Watch

The English dub of Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four! is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The first two dubbed episodes premiered on January 20, with subsequent episodes released on Mondays. The series is also streaming in its original Japanese with subtitles. The anime is part of Crunchyroll’s Winter 2025 lineup, and is available in North America, Europe, Asia, and other regions.

Global Availability

The series is available for streaming globally. New episodes are released according to local time zones, ensuring that fans worldwide can keep up with Uchimura’s adventures. For specific release times, fans are encouraged to refer to the official websites and streaming platforms.

Critical Reception

The series has garnered positive attention for its unique premise, with many noting that it’s a refreshing take on the isekai genre. Critics have praised the anime for utilizing the protagonist’s past life skills in a fantasy setting and subverting typical tropes associated with the genre. The series is also recognized for its humor, problem-solving and heartfelt moments.

Story Synopsis

The story revolves around Dennosuke Uchimura, an average salaryman who experiences constant failures in his Earth life. After a hit-and-run accident, he is reincarnated in a world of demons and monsters. To his surprise, the Demon King recruits him to be one of the Four Heavenly Kings in his army. Armed only with his wit and business skills, Uchimura navigates the challenges of this new world.

Themes and Tropes

The anime explores the idea of a corporate salaryman finding a more meaningful existence in an alternate, fantasy world. It’s been noted that the anime plays on the dark humor of an evil demon lord being a better boss than one in a typical Japanese corporation. It also highlights the contrast between his mundane former life and his extraordinary new one.

Additional Information

The opening theme for the anime is “Isekai Kyosokyoku” by Seino Kentaro, while the ending theme is “Tsuyo Girlfriend” by otonari. The original manga series is published by Overlap in their Comic Gardo shonen manga magazine, with an English version available from Seven Seas Entertainment.
