The upcoming 44th film in the Doraemon franchise, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales, is adding a dose of comedy to its cast with the inclusion of the popular Japanese comedy duo, Sandwich Man. This announcement comes as anticipation builds for the film’s release in Japan on March 7th.

Comic Duo Takes on Royal and Critical Roles

Mikio Date, one half of Sandwich Man, will lend his voice to the character of the King of the Artoria Kingdom. This marks a foray into voice acting for Date, who is known for his comedic timing and delivery. His partner, Takeshi Tomizawa, will play a Critic, bringing his own brand of humor to the animated world. Their participation adds an element of surprise and excitement for fans of both Doraemon and the comedy duo.

A Journey into a Painted World

The film, which is also celebrating the 45th anniversary of Doraemon movies, will see Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends embark on a new adventure. This time, they’ll travel into a medieval European world depicted within a painting. In this painted world, they encounter Claire and Milo, two children from the kingdom of Artoria, along with a small, winged demon named Chai.

A Battle for a Legendary Jewel

The group’s adventure takes a turn as they become embroiled in a quest to defeat a powerful enemy who seeks a legendary jewel. This quest will test their friendship and courage, bringing a mix of action, humor, and heart to the screen.

Returning Talent Behind the Scenes

Yukiyo Teramoto, known for his work on previous Doraemon series and films, will be directing Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales. The script is being penned by Satoshi Itō, also a veteran of the Doraemon series. Their expertise and familiarity with the franchise should provide fans with a familiar yet refreshing viewing experience.

Celebrating 45 Years of Doraemon Movies

This film is not just another chapter in the long-running franchise, but a celebration of the 45th anniversary of Doraemon movies. It’s a testament to the enduring popularity and timeless appeal of the beloved characters, and the adventures that have captivated audiences for generations. The inclusion of the Sandwich Man duo as guest stars adds a new level of excitement for the anniversary.

Star-Studded Cast and Crew

The main cast includes familiar voices such as:

  • Wasabi Mizuta as Doraemon
  • Megumi Ohara as Nobita
  • Yumi Kakazu as Shizuka
  • Subaru Kimura as Gian
  • Tomokazu Seki as Suneo

Additionally, Ōji Suzuka will guest star as Paru, a mysterious art dealer in Artoria and Miki Fujimoto will voice the Queen Consort of Artoria, further enriching the cast.

Music and Visuals

The film’s ending theme song, “Sketch,” will be performed by the talented singer-songwriter Aimyon. The movie’s key art and trailer offer a glimpse into the imaginative world that awaits viewers, showcasing the blend of fantasy, adventure, and humor that has become synonymous with the Doraemon franchise.

Box Office Success of Previous Film

The 2024 Doraemon film, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Earth Symphony, was a major hit, opening at #1 in Japan, selling 538,000 tickets, and earning approximately 655,555,580 yen in its first weekend. This success has heightened expectations for Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales.

A Look at the Production

The movie is produced by Shin-Ei Animation and distributed by Toho. The film’s setting, a medieval European world depicted in paintings, will surely provide a fresh and visually stunning backdrop for the adventures of Doraemon and friends.

Jimbocho Theater’s Doraemon Film Festival

To further celebrate the 45th anniversary, Jimbocho Theater in Tokyo will host a Doraemon Film Festival 2025, showcasing 43 films over 34 days. This event is a must for any fan eager to relive past adventures before the new release.

A Blend of Comedy and Adventure

The addition of Sandwich Man to the cast of Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Art World Tales is a strategic move that blends the traditional Doraemon adventure with a touch of modern Japanese comedy. This fusion is expected to resonate with a wide audience, appealing to long-time fans and newcomers alike. The film is poised to be a memorable addition to the Doraemon legacy.

A Look Ahead

As the release date approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see how Mikio Date and Takeshi Tomizawa bring their comedic talents to the animated world of Doraemon.
